Could ' a kind person' possibly do a look up for me to see if there is a death notice for John Roberts Widdup in the Barnoldswick local newspaper of the time. The notice will be shortly after 20th Novemeber 1946. I presume the library will have the newspapers on micro film. Unfortunately I can't get over to Barlick inthe forseeable future

Sue, by coincidence i was looking thro. the barlick and earby times micro, files to-day, and unfortunately, they only have files for 1960-1966, then a gap to 1980 onwards i can only suggest that perhaps if yuo got in touch with the leader times main offices then perhaps they would help.....

Thanks, which paper is this linked to, is it the Burnley Express group, do you know or is it another one. My sister is a jounalist and trained with the Nelson Times, she used to cover Barnoldswick issues when she worked there in the late 1970s

You can also look through back copies of the Nelson Leader on line, esp obituaries, so I guess you can do that with other local papers?

Ta, will do. I tried Thornton/ Cleveleys/ Fleetwood libraries, he isn't in their papers and they suggested Barlick ones. Unfortunately by the time of John's death, siblings Elizabeth Mary had died ( 1916), Smith had died ( 1933ish), Ernest had died in Australia (1913), Robert was in Australia (I don't know when he died). Son Percy was in New York, ( and had been in Shanghai from 1920 ish) son Harold was in London and had been from at least 1931, son Wilfred as far as I know, missing presumed dead since 1923. John had MANY cousins and descendants in Barlick but he may never have kept in contact. There may have been noone to read a death announcement or obituary in this area. It looks like the family lived in London area from at least the early 1920s if not before.
Has anyone ever heard of an Office Equipment Company run by a Widdup family froma bout 1918 onwards?
