I am searching for information on my grandfather's brothers who I believe were brought up in Burnley.

My great grandfather Christopher Ward Bailey of Eller Gill at Embsay lost his wife Elizabeth Ann in 1905.  I understand that his two youngest sons Alfred, born in 1900 and Harold, born in 1902 went to live with relatives in Burnley.

Elizabeth Ann was the daughter of Thomas Oates born in 1829 and Mary Halstead born in 1839 and they were all born in Worsthorne.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Elizabeth with parents and brother in 1881. It may be that the brothers went to live with Elizabeths brother in Burnley. I will see if I can find him in 1901.

Hello Gloria,

Yes that's them.  My grandfather was Arthur and I know what happened to Frank and Christopher Jnr but I have nothing on the younger ones.  Other than a very tenuous link with a company in Clock Tower Mill in Burnley, and someones vague recollection that they may have lived in or near coal Clough lane.

It seems that William was the son of Elizabeth Halstead I have traced the Oates and Halstead lines back to 1841.  I have only been researching for a couple of months and have the census information but I'm not really sure how to find what happened this side of 1901

I think you can find things out on the electoral lists, but to be honest I have never gone down that road. I suppose you could search through marriages on ancestry, but then again if there are a few of the same name it could get expensive trying to find the one with the right father, as they are on the certs.
