Sewing razor blades into the neb of a flat cap was quite common in the classes I mixed with in the 50s.....
I just noticed the typo in my post about Line of Duty.... Too good to alter!
Last night I broke a rule and stayed up to watch the end of the Selby/Fu semi final. The last frame was the best tactical snooker I have ever seen, riveting and quite magnificent! Thank God for good eyesight, modern high definition screens and good editing. Better view of the action than the players!

I watched a lot of the snooker, but dodged across to the 'Silk Road' on Saturday night. Couldn't help thinking that Ding, facially at least, looked a lot a member of the terracotta army.
I spent the rest of the tournament thinking of the press headline if he won -
the 'Terror Potter Warrior'.

Peaky Blinders last night, left on a knife edge. Tommy is having a bit of bother with the wayward priest. I reckon I have an idea who will prevail though.

I heard that the producers are going to bring the saga up to the advent of WWII as the family attempt to legitemise the business.

I found the oil shale programme Wendy but unfortunately it hit a problem before I had seen all of it. What I didn't see mentioned was the fact that a lot of the bings he was looking at had been on fire after tipping, that's what breaks them up like that. I well remember the smell of them when I was delivering cattle in Lanarkshire.....

I skipped Top Gear last night and watched a Lewis episode on ITV3. I shall watch Top Gear tonight but am not expecting to be enthralled. I have no liking for Chris Evans for a kick off.....

I watched Top Gear and was tempted to shut it down but decided I should suffer if I was going to express an opinion.... Sorry, but it was dire! They have used the old format and do it badly. That invites comparison with the old programme and it failed. Why does Chris Evans shout all the time?
Heaved a sigh of relief when it was over and switched to Wallander......

There is never anything on TV that appeals on a Saturday night. Its always music night for us...the random play list of old favourites turned up loud.

We watched 12 Years a Slave last night on CH4, factual account of Soloman Northup a freeman form New York who was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the southern states. Set just before the Civil War it is based on a true account. Good film, won lots of awards.

On the whole, what the TV people see as 'popular programmes' (or cheap!) leave me completely cold. More and more I am using search on the internet for my entertainment. I never even bothered to look at Top Gear last night, once a regular watch. I may have a peep at it on iPlayer but am not expecting any improvement. Last night I watched 3 episodes of 'Young Blood', some of it a bit annoying like the direct rip-off from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid where the pair jump eight storeys into the swimming pool but on the whole it was entertaining.....

I watched the French Open tennis final yesterday. I couldn't help thinking that if Andy got rid of his silly cap, had a shave and a haircut, wore some proper length white shorts with shirt socks and shoes to match, lost the hang dog, sullen, angry bad tempered attitude, stopped grunting, and stopped wiping his face between every point. . . . .

He would probably still have lost to Djokovic.

I forgot to mention that last week I had a look at the new Top Gear and found it was even worse than I thought. Just to make certain I looked at it again last night and it is bloody awful! The ginger haired one is being moved into the background, and the American Matt Leblanc is taking over. The only bright spot in the whole production is Sabine Schmidt the German lady. She appeared in a few of the original programmes, always at the Nurburgring and I could never understand why there wasn't more of her. At one time I thought she might have been The Stig! The highlight of her slot last night in the Audi R8 was the Ginger one being sick after a circuit with her..... That's about the height of his contribution! (Why does he have to shout all the time.....)
I shan't bother watching again until someone tells me it is safe to go back in the water.....

I watched Exposure on ITV Hub last night, the story of the recent allegations about Clement Freud. Very powerful and gave a real sense of the damage done to those young ladies..... Not pleasant to watch but very instructive.

Britain's Most Spectacular Backyard Builds BBC2 8pm Today
Its against the (ten week?) clock, so not to Stanley's precision skills as such.
Reminds me of those BBC science challenge programmes that used to have Heinz Woolf in them.

Did anyone else watch Fixing Dad last night? It was quite inspirational, and a strong reminder of the dangers of type 2 diabetes and the NHS policy of treating it with increasing doses of drugs when there is another answer.

I did, he took a bit of convincing to bite the bullet didn't he? He had to have the game changing moment of the tumor really, that tipped the balance. Good outcome though, I saw him on the One Show and he is certainly a different bloke to the one you saw at the start of the program. Can't help thinking though that there was a lot of money pumped into his motivation which would probably be out of reach of a lot of folk. Useful to show that their is an alternative though.
