Moh has sent me some pics from Charlie Lancaster's grand daughter but they are very small files so quality is not good. I have asked Moh to see if she can get me some bigger files. However, here they are.

I have asked Kathleen to send them direct to Stanley to see if they are better quality that way. In the school photo I am the second left sitting down. Kathleen is fourth from right sitting down.

Moh, tell Kathleen that what we need is bigger files, the more pixels the easier it is to breathe on them,!

Kath has sent more images b ut unfortunately they were Word images. The only way I could open them was to photograph them on the screen so quality has suffered a bit. Here they are.

If any of our computer wizards know of a better way of capturing a Word image in .docx so it can be put through Gimp I'd be pleased to hear from them.

Rather than word images, I assume you mean a Word document with images embedded. You should be able to right click select copy and then paste into whatever application you wish. I have tried it from Word to Irfanfiew and it works fine, once it's on the clipboard you should be able to move it into any other application you like. I don't have Gimp on this machine but I can't see it making a difference.

Those photos bring back happy childhood memories, although I can't remember going to the vicarage garden party although I am near the bottom right hand corner with my hand over my mouth, something funny must have been said. We got married at Kelbrook Church in 1958.

The top one is a pantomime at Kelbrook chapel, I am the little girl on the left sitting down. It must have been around 1947. The bottom one is the Dotcliffe Mill Concert Party around 1948/9, I am the one one the left sitting down, my mum is second from right standing and my dad in the middle of the back row (with a tooth missing!) Two ladies, Florrie & Elsie, in the middle were from Barlick, I rather think Louie who is sitting down is also from there, she taught us the dances and produced the show. Tom Ward played the piano for us.

Was that Tom Ward who worked at Bristol Tractors and then went on to be a tailor in Barlick? If so, my mother always had a soft spot for him.....

Yes that was him. He used to be on the oldsite - he responded by pm when I mentioned he played for our dancing and always began a tune with a few bars of 12th St. Rag.

Stanley - how to get images out of .docx...
As you know, I don't have Microsoft Word but use Open Office (OO). I made a test document in OO, inserted a photo, saved it as a .docx file and closed it. Opened the .docx file again in OO, right-clicked the photo and chose `Save graphics' from the menu. The usual type of Save dialog box came up and I saved the image to a convenient folder. When I compared it to the original image it had the same pixel dimensions, a slightly different file size, and looked identical. Thus, no need to export the image from the .docx file to any other software, just save it as above. Alternatively, you can use a longer route by right-clicking the image in the .docx file, choosing Copy from the menu and pasting it into a new blank Gimp file - but you need to size the blank file to fit the image. The first method is easier.

EDIT: I've now found an easy method for getting ALL the images out of a doc or docx file in one go, using Open Office. The details are on this web page: LINK

I may well have seen you then Moh. Often used to stay at Sough in the school holidays during that sort of time. My father's widowed sister Fanny Crabtree lived there, with her two sons Jack and Richie. Jack was a keen cricketer, and for a time worked at Bristol Tractors. He now lives near Leicester, and I have 'Christmas card' contact with him. Richie became a civil engineer in Hong Kong; but sadly passed away a few years ago. He was alway showing me how to make crystal radios. Auntie Fanny was always taking us off to concerts and pantomimes in Kelbrook; or picking rose hips on the footpath to Salterforth; and walks up to Tunstead where her brother Bob farmed. On Google Earth I can still pick out the red-flowered hawthorn bush that stands near the entrance to Tunstead! Funny what things stick in your mind from childhood.

I'm not sure about that. He most likely would have gone either there or Skipton. He became an industrial chemist and worked for many years at Pilkington Glass St. Helens.

Just spotted my cousin Ritchie Crabtree (now sadly passed away) on the Vicarage Garden Party 1945 circa pic. I think it's more likely to be 1946. He is on the far right of the picture with fair hair and a grey buttoned up jacket; peeking round the edge of the frame as it were.
