Re: Garden Railway
Very Impressive Sue. Any chance of getting the Chief Engineer to issue a drawing of the current layout?

Re: Garden Railway
Essentially an oval, with a straight short piece, the station ! Where we may have a seat constructed where that old hump of soil was. Its about 220 metres all the way round. We are trying to grow a live tunnel over one section which will be covered with Montana clematis but so far growth is rather stunted !

Re: Garden Railway
Impressive Sue! Not far to go now. What a great day when he tries a steamer out on it! Shades of LBSC and the Polar Run. (Bob will know all about that! Including the fact that Curly liked cross dressing but that never got mentioned in the Model Engineer.....)

Re: Garden Railway
Tell Bob it's no matter, this is a moment to savour, he's nearing the end of Phase 1! He should just sit there and contemplate what he's accomplished.

Re: Garden Railway
Just a small issue, how do you get the track to fit into the gap between the two existing ends? Are the track sections adjustable in length or do you you have to get the hacksaw out? No doubt Bob will have it all figured out but in mind it could be one of those things that require a bit of thought.
Re: Garden Railway
Bob makes them all to fit. Its made already but it has been a very cold wet day and the ground is sodden

Re: Garden Railway
He also makes the curves, they come as a long piece of metal which he bends to fit. He used to make the sleepers too from wood, but tgen found a supplier of plastic ones, less likely to rot

Re: Garden Railway
Sounds very similar to me Sue but forget the plumbing and building. I have been completely side tracked this morning by cooking... I have been on my feet all morning and only just sat down. Now I need a rest, then mashing veggies and emptying the bin, there's no end to it!
My mind ranges forward, there is the small matter of the lineside works. I remember Newton once telling me about a bloke in the West Country he used to visit each year when he was on holiday because he was a good engine builder and had a stretch of line behind the bungalow they lived in. He went down one year and was amazed to find the man and his wife digging a tunnel under the house so he could make a continuous loop, he was fed up with push and pull working. He had finished it by the next time Newton visited. There's dedication for you! (And a supportive wife!)

Re: Garden Railway
Great. Lovely. Mildly eccentric English people in France! When we went to New Mexico my brother-in-law has a model railway running around his garden complete with hand-made model buildings and scenery, I think it is HO scale.

Not too sure about 'mildly' eccentric China!
