Re: SUMMER 2012
There's something inevitable in a bad year watching the days closing in, the blackberries ripening and slowly realising that all hope of some sustained good weather is gone. Clouds are moving fast from the west this morning and thickening. Glass has fallen back during the night to almost 29.3". Bit gloomy to say the least. Courage Mon Braves!

Re: SUMMER 2012
It was ever the same Ian! Dodged showers yesterday. Glass has risen slightly and is almost on 29.5". No sign of the heat wave!

Re: SUMMER 2012
One violent clap of thunder at 14:30. Woke me from my afternoon sleep! Glass solid on 29.5", westerly breeze. Ireland is quite dry at the moment so chances are there won't be much rain today. Don't get excited, no summer either. Cooler generally, the vest was a good idea!
Later.... after our inspection of Valley Gardens. There was much more rain last night than I suspected. Butts Beck is running as high as it's been all 'summer'. Dark brown water and noisy enough to make conversation difficult stood on the footbridge at the weir.

Re: SUMMER 2012
Not quite Summer yet in our parts, but just on the tail end of a family houseboat holiday ( an annual ritual for us). We have had great weather and it is nice not to be overwhelmed by 45C temps for once. Mind you, I do miss the stunning dawn and dusk skies of summer. Have been up before dawn every morning hoping to capture a brilliant photo. Probably have some good ones but just not the brilliant dazzle of summer on the river. Just beautiful when the cliffs turn red and the river twinkles like diamonds. But one positive of coming in the cooler weather is that there are no blowflys or mozzies!
Home tomorrow. Looking forward to it. It is nice to spend a week with our adult kids, but there is a reason they grew up and left home....they have their own way of living...and we have a quieter concept on life...

Re: SUMMER 2012
Clear night and the coldest start we have had for a long time. I guess somewhere near 5C. Glass has shot up to 30.1" and we could have a bright morning but more rain is rolling in from the west.

Re: SUMMER 2012
Down here in Southern Europe, it's been the hottest summer for 50 years or more. Absolutely no rainfall recorded in August here, and last night was first time overnight temperature fell below 25C. This morning though it looks like summer could end, and August go out with a bang. Some heavy cloud rolling in from the south, and storms forecast for the whole weekend. Also temperatures forecast to drop drastically.

Re: SUMMER 2012
Same here in Barlick Wendy, white frost on the grass. The Radio reports that it is the coldest August morning since whenever... Never mind, it's sunny! Enjoy it till the next bank of rain comes in. Glass has risen in the last couple of hours but I suspect it will fall just as rapidly. Dry walk at dinnertime?

I assume you mean this year Pluggy? Maybe, but I will be goverened by the solar system rather than recent trends. It seems to have worked in the main since we adopted the current calendar some time ago!

Re: SUMMER 2012
Yes this year, last spring, senior moment. So OGFB spring starts the day of the spring equinox and not a couple of months early ?
Of course if we're continually looking on the optimistic side, autumn will start in November, spring in January and winter will be cancelled due to lack of interest.

Re: SUMMER 2012
That's about the size of it, regardless of the weather we get I'll stick to the seasons defined by the solar system, it's a bit more constant. Don't mind cancelling Winter though, although having said that I love walking the hills in Winter when you mainly have them to yourself. I like to think that anyway, even though it probably actually means there is no-one else as daft as me out in all weathers!

Re: SUMMER 2012
Looks like we could be in for a couple of weeks of nearly warm weather , the local flowers and blackberries are blooming again so they must think it was worth while. Spent Saturday fending off butterflies in a field so hopefully didn't squash too many under the car wheels.

25C and very windy with it here today.
Have spent the last few days fertilising the lawns and garden beds, mulching, repotting, weeding etc
Stiff as a board now.

Re: SUMMER 2012
The exercise will do you good Maz. Pain is good!
Wet walk first thing yesterday as it started raining but it eventually cleared up and became a reasonable day. Glass up a touch and steady on 30". Sky is as clear as a bell, there will be a heavy dew this morning.

Re: SUMMER 2012
Left home on Friday 31.08 for our stay in Gloucester weather was glorious and remained so all weekend. Travelled to Plymouth on Monday and it was again hot sunshine for our sail to Brittany. Since arriving here it's been between 23 and 25 degrees C hot and sunny although cold in the mornings. Sat outside until 11.00 on Thursday night but the nights are now getting shorter and colder.
