We can add to that speeding up movement of animals and plants in TV nature programmes. It's ludicrous, we've now got kids who don't see `real' nature growing up thinking that everything is moving about at a ridiculous speed.
I'm also tormented by the rowdy inane trailers (ads really) in between serious programmes on Radio 4. Like with TV ads, they deliberately raise the sound level above normal to force themselves on our attention.

Vitaly Votanovsky who has been recording Russia's Ukraine war deaths in the cemeteries and has now had to flee the country after death threats...

I think the Russian people have a different mind set to us. That's a sweeping statement - and based on no more than translating the remarks from the kibitsers on the Chess Fight Night website with the aid of google translate. It's amazing - works with any script and any language. Some one cleverer will be needed for more detail.

I'm reading a book about the Womens' Land Army in WWII. "They Fought in the FIelds" by Nicola Tyrer. It was noticed that the farmers were eating a lot better than the general public.

He thanked his hostess adding a miscievious hint that the MInistry of Food would be less impressed with the copiousness of the fare. I speak with radio amateur operators from Russia and surrounding states quite regularly. Things have moved on quite considerably from the Cold War days when all contacts were "rubber stamp", RST report, how cold it was and please QSO via PO BOX 88 Moscow! Radio traffic was vetted somewhat back then. Not exactly a free for all nowadays but you can sense in conversation that all are not fully compliant with what is happening in Ukraine, they also know who started it all.

Statement by the spokesperson for British Apples and Pears, a trade body.
"When we see the price the customer pays for apples rising 17% and the increase in payments to the growers being .08% one has to suspect that the retailer is taking the increase and not passing it on.
I'd say that is a reasonable conclusion.

The Archbishop of Canterbury in the House of Lords a few minutes ago -

"We cannot take everyone -and nor should we. . "

He is silent on how many we should take and what we should do when that limit is reached.

This was said in the context of war and conflict round the world and the bigger threat from global warming. Thankfully for the UK we are not directly involved in most of the conflicts but neither are we active in trying to stop them. Our interests seem to be in selling more arms to keep them going. Global warming will initially affect the poorer south world countries then gradually work its way north. First it may only be 'local' crop failures and empty supermarket shelves. We are already seeing an increase in food banks through higher prices something that will hit the next generation even harder. The old cliché "what has the next generation done for me" won't wash any more. We know global warming is happening but while there is profit to be made we are choosing to ignore it.

You are right Ken to say that "Global warming will initially affect the poorer south world countries then gradually work its way north.". We are seeing the start of it now and it is being made worse by supermarkets not encouraging UK producers to do just that, produce. Instead they are forcing farm gate prices down ostensibly to 'protect their customers' but in effect to boost their own market share and profit. We need to start paying producers the cost of production now but of course that will further increase food prices. No way will this government allow that.
The bottom line is that we have to pay the cost of production in order to survive.
It's a similar problem to what we are seeing in the public sector strikes. You can hold back the cost of labour for so long and then the dam bursts, you get strikes and in the end you have to pay the actual cost of providing that labour.
Why are our leaders so slow and stupid?

This from a report by BBC North America correspondent Anthony Zurcher on what might happen if Trump gets elected again...
If Mr Trump cuts off the supply of weapons, the war will end on Russian terms, which is the West's worst nightmare, the former head of Britain's secret service, Sir Alex Younger, told the BBC. "Putin didn't have a Plan B when he invaded Ukraine but this is now his Plan B - to wait it out."

From Salman Rushdie via the BBC website.
A very intelligent, and perceptive - not to mention brave, thing to say.

"The award-winning author also criticised the rewriting of older books in modern times to remove language deemed offensive, saying that books should "come to us from their time and be of their time." "And if that's difficult to take, don't read it, read another book," he said.

A good friend of mine said recently -

"Don't worry about your problems - let your problems worry about you".

She has a totally different "lived experience" and attitude to life than I have. I think there might be something in it.

PS Did I just say "lived experience". That's on my list.
