Colne Parish Church Sundial

Colne Parish Church Sundial
This ornate sundial above the porch of Colne Parish church (St Bartholomew's) is a rare find. Thought to have been placed here in the Victorian period, it replaced an earlier finial (spire or stone ornament). The present-day church dates from the 16th century but an earlier church of a 12th-century date stood on this site. There are many interesting grave-slabs in the churchyard, including some from the early 17th-century. Two cross-slabs in the porch are from an even earlier date, perhaps 13th century ?
