Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

If you've never had a call or text message from someone unknown to you, Tripps, then you're fortunate. One of the common scams that's been around for years is the text message seeking help (and then money) from someone whose first name is coincidentally that of someone you know. The senders rely on ...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

Why can't it be random and simply a coincidence that Tripps had had a conversation about an accident? My sister-in-law was on holiday and I got a text message from her saying she had a problem and needed help. I was on my way to collect Mrs Tiz who'd been away on a course and I was having problems w...

Re: OBITUARIES

Captain Michael Howard who was in the secret British Army T-Force at the end of WW2 died recently. His story is interesting but I haven't been able to find an online obituary that I could link to - there are ones in the Telegraph and Times but you need to subscribe to read them. But I did find some ...

Indeed, and at a time when the world is already on the brink of more serious dangers. The economy in China is faltering and that's causing much alarm worldwide. Trump is willing to pile more pressure on them and make the situation even worse.

Unfortunately they seem to be getting more common and more sophisticated, but I suppose that's bound to happen, there's a lot of money to be made. The one I got yesterday claimed that he'd got my details off the Dark Net and it was written in good English, no typos or wrong spellings. I guess the me...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

Yes, it taught me a lesson. I've always been very cautious on the Internet because in the early 1990s in a publishing company I worked in the next office to computer security journalists. I learned from them the dangers and took care but that was a long time ago and the dangers change. I would never...

There's a shocking story on the front page of The Times today about a 21-year-old autistic woman in care in Manchester. The paper got information released showing that her carers had been encouraging her to have risky sexual encounters with strange men so that she might `learn from her mistakes'.

I can remember when I was very young and was fascinated by watching railway engines pulling wagons across cobbled streets, no barriers, you just had to look to see if an engine was coming. It was in the area near Daisyfield Junction in Blackburn.

Kev, Tripps has saved me the need to respond, I agree with everything he has written in the above post (including his comment about the water meter). All I will add is that both mobile and broadband connections are not reliable here and that might affect the use of smart meters too.
