Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner

If blame goes anywhere, does Public Health England Know what it should have been doing or saying ? "Data from MHA shows 42% of its staff members who recently tested positive were not displaying symptoms. Nearly 45% of residents who had a positive test were also asymptomatic" (MHA is a private care h...

one for tizer (or wendy?) I notice EDF are doing a bit of a confusing deal with ground source/heat pumps for working with LPG/oil boiler systems as there are (limited by quota) govt incentives it might be worth doing. https://www.edfenergy.com/for-home/energy-efficiency/low-carbon-heating Future Hea...

Re: Gardening

i said fly, it might be a beetle, I have seen assorted crawling over dandelions in the past i think they must pollinate. The convolvulus is bindweeding its way through the local urban hedgerows as the trimmers and strimmers have not been out to control it. Does any natural animal enjoy safely eating...

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner

One ponders how a virus ..can have a much worse outcome for males, older persons, those of an ethnic minority, those with a particular blood group etc. Makes you scratch your head a bit...how did this virus get so darn clever? Males tend to have a generally worse immune system, something to do gene...

Re: POLITICS CORNER

I concluded that USA is basically a paranoid wild west . I have given up trying to work it out. Looks like in his writings Starmer is trying to pin responsibility on Boris, if not for the past certainly the future (What we appear to have got is an exit without a strategy - written for Cov-19 but pro...

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner

Some of the current theories offer up the idea that the covid-19 that we are seeing now is actually a mutation from a less severe coronavirus type that infected people before this pandemic outbreak. Being a relative mild infection it was largely ignored as a pandemic pathogen. If the route was via ...

MPs voted 242 to 185 against allowing remote voting in the House of Commons to continue. I cannot recall how many non tories there are in parliament but that adds up to 427 members , ignoring say NI and a few off sick where are the other 180 odd - did they all pair up ? The Hubei provincial health c...

It is more going to be what China, India and Brazil does. At the largest land masses capable of making and influencing change. I assume that NZ,Aus, Europe have bought into renewables and society change already, along with Canada. Russia remains unknown but I think it will collapse under C-19 and th...

It took a revolution to bring about the house of commons, is there enough energy in the country to bring about the needed reform, we have just voted in a reactionary government.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner

Just done a quick calculation on the costs of the track and trace regime. Only £27 million a month if they are all on the same rate as the bloke mentioned in my last post. I would assume it will be a flat rate for the other tracers. :surprised: I thought they were after volunteers (too) or some man...

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS

Watching Canterbury Cathedral on BBC2 this morning Slype slype is a variant of slip in the sense of a narrow passage; in architecture, the name for the covered passage usually found in monasteries or cathedrals between the transept and the chapter house. I think Slip for ginnel and alleyway I have h...

I think it is a particular fly that they use for pollination. Hover Flies tend to be evening wanderers , so it might be to do with size, shape and the shaking frequency of a fly that is tuned to how the flowers work.

I noted that Tiz. If Hollywood had made a film parodying the role of POTUS and invented a Trump they couldn't have done a better job. Angry protesters forcing the White House into lockdown says something but even so about 50% of the voters think he can do no wrong. Voters get the governance they de...

`MPs urge UK ban on chlorinated chicken and hormone-fed beef' LINK It's essential that we ban chlorinated chicken and hormone-fed beef now that we won't have the EU protection from these US products. I am not chasing numbers for the sake of it. Every number is a person, with a potential less life and obviously missed future potential. At some time the NHS will have to change, and expand, to treat diseases of aging and have effective safe nursing home or community care across England, with additi...

there is an obvious ripost to the second home thing with some exemptions. I shall avoid it. That might be a get out for young children though normally the get close up enough to exch...
