Re: THE FLATLEY DRYER

Most smart phones have display options for digital 24 hr am/pm or analogue sweep formats Inc count up and count down stopwatches , apps to GPS to calculate speed and acceleration. I Assume a 24he analogue option could be choosable on some systems there is a large mechanical one at Greenwich .

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

The lady, who had driven in from Reading I think had been news reported on the Telly in London last Thursday. I think R4 overnight has world service packaging UK news up for wider auidence and also runs or pre runs items that then turn up daytime on the despatches or from our own correspondent slot.

Yes, been reading the BBC report of the fire. Now, like many mill buildings, converted into smaller business units, wonder what happened to sprinkler systems - are they no longer effective (note generally that sprinklers were an insurance company requirement to mitigate against loss of inventories ,...

I have found the front paving thawing, but not the grass. Dry snow still falling/blowing about. Rear paving thawing possibly from drains. Still windy and a definite chill up the trouser legs.

Gas from Russia per BBC around 1.4% of UK consumption , with 3 commercial loads of CNG last year, which I suppose were a small earner from Russia. Still worrying that the UK strategic gas reserve storage was closed down on cost grounds. Of course if Europe went with any UK sanctions then would be ga...

I suppose wherever one suggests to a Spy where is a good place in the UK to settle, there is some kind of UK military/politcal establishment nearby. A BBC report on the type of nerve agent used in the Swindon poisoning... `Russian spy: What are Novichok agents and what do they do?' LINK That report doesn't tell us anything about the chemistry. The Novichok agents are organophosphate molecules that inhibit the enzyme acetylcholinesterase which i...

Note re HMRC I am glad doddy did the right thing. Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

Onions probably should be in the useful tips, I think they are part of the garlic family and yes their defences do make eventual juices that could in high doses give ones innards a run for their money. And they would work as a mild disinfectant against a few (all?) bacterial and viruses. But I wonde...

I have never seen this country as badly managed. You've got a short memory then! Perhaps it should be , as badly managed by someone who purports to know what they were doing. GB really got what he wanted and effectively couldn't handle it because he was trying by cash to change some inequalities in...

Oddly also on facebook is this ITN Potato Shortage report, which is entitled by Gettyimages as Burnley shops, but there is a similar left hand shop frontage vertical part way through - though on a steeper hill. Strangely I was round at Richard Wellock's warehouse unit this afternoon - among other de...

"in modern business affairs is that Investor Return and profit drive everything that they do to the exclusion of other considerations like pay levels for staff and ethic"
I am sure this was the situation 30 years ago and I guess Stanley etc can give plenty of examples from decades prior to that.

What is the difference between Broth (which in tins seems insubtantial to me - something you might have if you are feeling a bit ill from some virus or otherwise) and Soup - which is either all liquid or has chunks of meat and/or vegtables in it?

Yes, it was discussed here, and I think it had something to do with potential industrial / political unrest as much as anything else.
