Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

2C , can't imagine it at the moment. Stay warm everyone. SA is in the grip of another serious heatwave, I think I must have missed the in-between bit because we haven't had much relief. 37C today, 39C for Wednesday and we have been told to take care and prepare for "A Horror Day" of 45C or higher on...

Re: ROLLER SKATING

Yes it's a lovely building. Looking at my 1968 street map of Barlick it shows a Town Hall on the corner of Church St and Manchester Rd, could the Panto's have been held there?

Re: ROLLER SKATING

I don't remember a Roller Skating venue . I know my Mother used to go to the Movies there. I do remember Pantomimes and I'm drawn to them being held in a building near Colne Rd. Would that have been Walmsgate area? In my mind I can see a high stone wall on the left, then heading up Colne Rd after wa...

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

Adelaide is on Code Red due to searing heat of 42C. We have the Tour Down Under doing their 5 days of cycling at the moment (15th-20th). What a day to start, poor buggers. It's hotter inland with one town (Pt.Augusta) recording 50C today. There's no relief in sight for SA. :sunny: I won't actually s...

A very impressive unit Stanley. I often wonder what Moorclose Farm would have been like inside when my Grandparents had it. Did you ever collect milk from there?

Re: CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

Oh so the crimes were true then.

I don't imagine that the ones in the newer cheap mags are tho, story's like My mum tried to drown me when I was a month old. Just rubbish , but guess what, the people get paid for their story's.

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS

Lately I've been hearing young children and young teenagers use the phrase 'very fun', as in It was very fun - It doesn't sound right. Something is great fun or a lot of fun, not very fun. I imagine their Teachers are not happy.

Re: CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

Penny Dreadful. I've been told they were a book of about A5 size full of crime stories (that never actually happened), and were very popular with our grandmothers, maybe even our mothers.
Today they are in the form of a cheap magazine and include a lot of puzzles.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

All I can think of is that it might be for a Sheppard to gather in one of his flock, around the neck. Or it's to suspend a bag of grain, or it's a butchers hook.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

Look what's NEW for us...
This is a Big Deal, most of us Aussies love topping our crackers with cheese and vegemite and now we have it all in a cracker. And yes, they are yummy.
Just a pity that poor old Tassie isn't included
