Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner

Poverty is often linked to malnutrition, a d this has been linked to obesity buy these days that is also a disease of the rich, and indeed the ordinary person. Dentists are in short supply back in the UK. Emergencies only, if you're lucky. Can you get your hands on some antibiotics just in case its an abscess that paracetamol won't deal with?

Similar fake news going on in the internet circles about Bill Gates. It would appear that Gates has been a critic of Trump in his handling of the epidemic. Gates has given £Millions to the cause. But Trump's supporters are thought to be behind all the adverse criticism and downright lies.

Re: READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

Different man to the book, but there again all the short stories have a philosopher element to them. Leo Tolstoy viewed life, death and marriage from what may be termed 'out of the box'. Often based on his own life's experiences and those he came into close contact with. A short book 250 pages very ...

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner

Don't take statements on face value Stanley, give them the benefit of your analytical powers! The mortality rate of 10% is a population average (the population of over-80s), not your own personal predicted value. That population includes a lot of people who are much less fit and much more more vuln...

Part way through a series of short stories (4 off) by Leo Tolstoy. A Wordsworth Classics book with the title The Death of Ivan Ilych & other stories. Very well written with a slant on life that was very unusual for the time period. Well worth a read certainly makes you think about life in general.

A reminder dropped through the post yesterday to tell me my MOT was due at the end of the month. Rang my garage, a good local firm that I can trust explicitly, and asked if it could be deferred as allowed by the current lock down rules. Having a MOT at this time of year is always a pain because the ...

The Arrogance of Old Age Yesterday morning, I bought two six packs of beer on sale at Aldi. I placed them on the front seat of the car and headed back home. I stopped at the petrol station where a drop-dead gorgeous, almost blonde was filling up her car at the next pump. It was very warm and she was...

Just a small issue, how do you get the track to fit into the gap between the two existing ends? Are the track sections adjustable in length or do you you have to get the hacksaw out? No doubt Bob will have it all figured out but in mind it could be one of those things that require a bit of thought.

Of course you are both right. The 'R' factor is not a simple binomial, Either, Or. equation but has loads of other factors in it not least the behavioral response of people under different conditions. The experts can only recommend certain actions to nudge people in the right direction then see what...

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner

People keep banging on about the virus reproductive rate ' R ' get it down to below '1' and the pandemic will start to retreat. This comes with its own problems. First the rate can never really be identified at a specific time. Taking a very simple explanation. If there are 1000 people and one perso...

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS

I was reading the other day that the Seven Stars was home to the Lodge of the 'Three Graces', masonic movement. This was back in 1792 with an address in 'Main Street'. Barnoldswick. I've no idea if this is the same Seven Stars but its use by the Masons may be more than coincidental. In the Tracing-B...

Once the pubs open I'm sure there's plenty of people who roll there own and a bit of pipe tobacco mixed with the compulsory weed which they appear to smoke should be a good outlet.
