Re: Barrowford and Pendle History site

The Lamb Club (Bank Hall) Barrowford. This is one of the oldest buildings in Barrowford with a date stone of 1696. However, one of the top corner bossage stones has a face carved on it that looks totally out of character with the rest of the building. (see photo) Does anyone know the history or the ...

Re: BARNOLDSWICK WAR MEMORIAL RE-DEDICATION

May I say what a fantastic job all those involved in this project have done. I must go on to show my own ignorance about the WW1 (The great War) I have seen memorials dated 1914- 18 & 19. and I know that the final peace treatise was signed in 1923. Until the recent photo's I have never seen one ...

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

Time to throw some light on this object.
Its a search light that they clamped to the side of the car to expose criminal acts.
What criminal acts these were I won't go into.

PS. I'm still looking for a 6 inch glass for it. Our local car store doesn't stock them any more!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

Something to think about while waiting for the "round robin" to come into land.

Made by "Kaufman" USA in 1917. a nice piece of brass pivots and swivels. What's its purpose. (think Elliot Ness).

Re: POLITICS CORNER

The lack of detail about the chemical attack in Syria is worrying. We read that over 1400 people have been killed. A tragic loss of life. This number of deaths raises the question of how much nerve agent was used and how many rockets / bombs were needed to deliver it. I would have thought that the “...

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

Ok Time to give up. Its actually a time delay switch. The canister is a dashpot containing oil. Depending on the viscosity of the oil and the stroke length set on the piston it will give a delay of between 1 - 25 seconds. I must admit I've had this thing for over 25 years and other than put it on th...

Re: POLITICS CORNER

Even with so called surgical strikes with laser precision accuracy there must be what is called euphemistically collateral damage. Dropping a cruise missile into a storage depot of nerve agents won’t result in a simple puff of smoke. Think of the end results if this happened in a built up area. Woul...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

I struggled with the wireless connection to our smart TV. With a brick wall and a floor to transmit through the connection was intermittent at the best. My conclusion was unless the TV can see the router you can have problems. The final solution was to use a Power Line connector. No problems with th...

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

Good answer. Its a "Wanda" stripper. Made in Birmingham 1926. The cutting blade is a straight guillotine action which may have been good enough for stripping the old rubber insulation but not much use on modern material.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

Oil and gas are just another form of fossilized fuel. If you burn them you finish up with carbon dioxide and extra greenhouse gasses. The answer would therefore be to develop sequestration (carbon capture and storage). This then leads to the question as to why we closed all our coal mines. Nothing t...

Silverman Hall Nelson. Not knowing much about the buildings in Nelson I am just a little puzzled by what used to be the Silverman Hall on Pendle St. Built originally as the “Weavers Institute” in 1904 it carries a finial with the lettering very similar to that used by the William Astley breweries.
