Re: Motorcycle Restoration.

Here are some details of the New Imperial restoration project. As always it is difficult to know where to start and where to finish. In my case I've chosen to start with the crank case bolted together and sat in the frame along with the gear box Image 1.jpg Image 1. A general view of the timing ches...

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

Quite right. The Post Box is Victorian. Probably quite common in Stanley's days. This one was spotted in Alnwick Northumberland. I've seen a King George one but again in Northumberland. Like most street furniture most people never take any notice of them.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

Factoid. Here’s a word that has crept into use. The afternoon programme on radio 2 uses them to highlight some little known fact which may be true or totally fictitious. The general meaning is said to be an unsubstantiated fact, generally untrue, that if repeated enough becomes fact in itself. “The...

Re: Motorcycle Restoration.

Unless the viewer is some king of mechanical nerd you can see their eyes glazing over at the very mention of blind cylinder heads, magnetos, pilgrim pumps and the mysteries of wheel lacing. For most people it would be akin to watching paint dry. Everyone’s restoration project has different problems ...

Motorcycle Restoration.

Bought as basket case, that is a euphemism for a pile of junk, it stood at the back of my garage for over 20 years. Comprising of ‘almost’ an engine, a gearbox and a frame plus mud guards. The redeeming feature was that all the bits were part of the original 1930’s bike. A vintage New Imperial 350cc...

Re: QUOTE OF THE DAY. TRIPPS ORIGINAL

Not quite a quote but more of a series of statements. Could be applicable to almost 90% of events today. Laws of Stupidity Carlo Maria Cipolla, an economic historian, is famous for his essays about human stupidity, such as "The Fundamental Laws of Human Stupidity". He viewed stupid people ...

Re: Look what I came across today.

Is This the End of the Line? For the past decade SELRAP (Skipton East Lancashire Rail Action Partnership) have been dreaming of re-opening the line from Colne to Skipton. Closed in 1970 through lack of funding the line always had the potential for reinstatement. The current thinking is that £43 mill...

There are known knowns; there are things we know that we know.
There are known unknowns; that is to say, there are things that we now know we don't know.
But there are also unknown unknowns – there are things we do not know we don't know. ”

Anyone travelling through Colne towards the M65 can hardly miss the wood and rope structure that has been erected near the Leisure centre. Its correct name is Urban Altitude and is the latest leisure facility for the Pendle area. Whatever one may think about its appearance it does add a new dimensio...

Re: POLITICS CORNER

The crime figures continue their downward spiral. This is obviously good news for everyone. Both the politicians (Cameron) and the police are keen to offer their reasons why this is happening. Charts of police numbers against falling crime don't seem to correlate. Cameron's explanation is equally un...

Re: BEWARE! THE BANKS ARE OUT TO GET YOU!

It has been drummed into me since the year dot that one should only gamble with money that you don’t need. My extension to this logic is that “if you don’t need it why are you trying to get more of something you don’t need?” When we look at the banking system the last thing that savers expect is tha...

Re: Lies, damned lies and statistics

The bad news is that the latest inflation figure is recorded at 2.7 %. The good news is that it was expected to be higher. Which cloud cuckoo land are we living in. Lets say it could have been 10% . We could all go round clapping and cheering at our good fortune!

Correct. St Bartholomew's. He is said to have been martyred in Albanopolis in Armenia. My wife bought me a racing snail for my birthday. Something I can keep pace with.
Unfortunately, in the last few races it came nowhere. I put the problem down to its shell being too heavy so I took it off. This made it even more sluggish

Oaklands, Church St Barrowford

The Oaklands house was built by John Barrowclough in 1860. However, on the side of Oaklands Lodge there is a plaque (Coat of Arms) that I can't quite understand its relevance. The plaque suggests that John Barrowclough may have been granted the use of Armorial bearings but with my limited knowledge ...
