The pub opposite Richmond Court was the Swan (hence Swan Croft). The Parkers was in Church St.

The clock was apparently so heavy that it threatened the integrity of the building! As there was a clock in the tower of St Bartholomew's (next door) at the time, it was unnecessary - and the Town Hall came along a few years later.

After Mr King-Wilkinson's death Slaidburn became part of Lord Clitheroe's estate. I doubt if much has changed!

Only speculation, but I imagine the station would also be used by villagers from Paythorne, Horton and Halton West as well as surrounding farms. It was the practice of many farmers in the early 20th. Century to attend the annual cattle sales in Oban, where they could get cattle from the Highlands an...

Barritt is a common name in Foulridge, and there are still people of that name in the village. The Barritt family has farmed at Hill Top since at least the 18th. Century, probably longer

If you're on Facebook, it will be worth putting something on the Colne Lancashire Now and Then page - it has hundreds of members with Colne connections. I got my first school satchel from Armistead Hartley's.
