Definitely a delivery of Rock Armour, but the location is a wild guess - somewhere on the coast ...
Apart from at Newbiggin, there are patches of rock armour at Upgang, Sandsend and Whitby, the Cumbrian Coast Railway line ...

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
The towers (and the signalling process) were developed during the Napoleonic wars period, by both sides !
Codes were used, as if the tower was visible to the other side, the messages could be read.
I found mentions in the Richard Sharpe stories as well as the Aubrey / Maturin and Bolithio books.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I don't know where that signal tower is located but I do know how and what ... The What - would have been signals between Admiralty House and Portsmouth. Actually, the army also used the system, but the stations were usually under the command of a midshipman or junior lieutenant and manned by rating...

Re: Wildlife Corner
In all this recent weather we have been making a point of keeping our bird feeders topped up, and on frosty days, hot water goes into the bird bath. Saw some Bramblings mixed in with the finches this morning (which now includes Greenfinches, once again). Got loads of blue, coal and great tits making...

Of course Kookaburras don’t actually laugh, it’s just their territorial call that they make, but it really does sound like their laughing and having a great time. :laugh5: :laugh5: Chap at Keilder Water, in the Bird of Prey Centre had a tame(ish) one called Sid. If the weather was good he would cal...

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Stone wool is made from volcanic rock, typically basalt or dolomite, an increasing proportion of which is recycled material in the form of briquettes. [I have to take issue with their reference to dolomite. It isn't a volcanic rock, it's like limestone (calcium carbonate) but with some of the calci...

I really, really hate "trophy hunting" ...
now if the hunter was armed only with an assegai and cowhide shield and not allowed any modern clothes. maybe that would be a bit fairer ?

Re: Wildlife Corner
Thanks, Stanley.
The total has been built up over he years by all of additional feeding and plenty of nest boxes as well as habitat conservation.
Living in a rural area is a major bonus, although the fairly fast B road along one side of my patch doesn't help.

I did a similar exercise a few years ago at a church my father in law was familiar with (He had converted it to use electric light many years previously).
