Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

How big is the garden Mick? Sounds to be a bit bigger than mine... Err, a bit. :laugh5: Remember though that this is Oklahoma. Land and property prices are pretty low. Just this week my wife Jan (one of the Colne Horsfields) sold her late dads house which was a back to back in Colne. She got exactl...

Re: Barlick Modern School band C1966

Alexander Doe Nevadonski (sp) was only in our class for the first year then I think his family moved away. They lived on the ranch, end house on Kenilworth Drive Kevin Robinson. Another Kenilworth drive lad. Like me he often put pushbikes together out of various bits he had hanging around and sold t...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

The last of the liver and bacon with veggies for breakfast and tea. How do you cook the liver, Stanley? We do ours in the oven with onions, water and some Bisto added later. The liver comes out really tender. Usually served with mash. I'm the mash man. Whenever I've had it fried like my dad used to...

Rainhall Rocks

My apologies in advance if these have been posted before. I did check but didn't see them. Rainhall Rocks was always a favourite laiking spot when I was a kid. By the time I got there the tunnel had already collapsed (or maybe just about) I couldn't believe it when in later years I found that this l...

Re: Barlick Modern School band C1966

Great replies ! Thanks Ian. I'm not sure about Margaret Taylor, Ian. I loved her from afar at Barlick Modern (Don't tell her husband) :biggrin2: The girl to the right of Linda Bolland isn't Linda? Rochester is it? I think the Boyles had a shop in Barlick. As kids we used to play 3 card brag in their...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

I played at "Pick Up Sticks", walking around the garden moving various small branches which had fallen after the recent storm on to the burn pile. Then I got the whole lot mowed, hopefully for the last time this year. So we are back in "park like surroundings" as the Estate Agent...

Re: SOUGH BRIDGE MILL PART 3

I love looking at old images like this one, not just the foreground but what's happening around and bits of small detail. Looking at the car, it appears to have the opening in the front bumper for the old cranking handle. My dad used to have a Wolsey 6/80 in the late 1950's and he spent many a happy...

Plus crusty Italian bread for dunking in it.

Re: Old fashioned clean jokes

I was a machinist all my working life and so was my father before me. But looking back over the generations it's clear that my ancestors were skilled at many different trades. One of the most interesting of these is way way back on my mothers side and they were wig makers to the rich and famous. I'm...

Re: SOUGH BRIDGE MILL PART 2

My neighbour, Colin Holt, was a toolmaker at Bristol Tractors. Not sure exactly when but he's in his eighties now. My neighbour (when I lived on the ranch), Harry West also worked at Bristol Tractors and his son John West worked at Earby Light when I was an apprentice there. Old Harry took me on my...

Re: SOUGH BRIDGE MILL PART 2

I was born in Bradford and both my dad and his friend had Jowett cars. I'm not sure what make my dad's was but I remember for certain that his friends car was a Jowett Javelin. My dad worked at Hindle Auto's in Bradford then moved to Hepworth and Grandage at Yeadon. Around 1963 he went to Earby Ligh...
