I can't remember when I last saw a snipe but you're right and shooting snipe was always recognised as the hardest target there was.

Re: Looking for general advice
I've just been asked about the LTP and it struck me that there was another area of my contributions which might need explaining to newer members. http://oneguyfrombarlick.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=196&image_id=194 This is the cabinet in my bathroom that holds my local history index cards....

Sorry. LTP is the Lancashire Textile Project and you can find it in the archive if you look in its own section of the forums page. I'll go and have a look and see if I can find a page address. Google will be indexing it shortly. Try this: http://archive.oneguyfrombarlick.co.uk/forumda56.html?FORUM_I...

I found this derelict steam crane in an old waterworks quarry near Slaidburn in 1980. I wonder if it's still there?

The constant rain, good for the water supply and it could have been snow of course but nevertheless a bit miserable.

Perhaps they're rich and like fresh air. Stove was still lit yesterday morning so I cleaned it out and chucked some kindling in. As soon as it caught I chucked some nuts in and when it had burned up I shut the dampers down. I haven't touched it since and there are still hot coals in there so I've ch...

Have a look in the archive in 'Stanley's View' and search for 'Horace Thornton'. A series of articles and the first half of them refer to Carleton as he was born there. His interviews are in the LTP as well.

Never mind the length Wendy, the link works. Nice pic, looks to be about 1890/1900. Lots of hand coloured cards around that time in this area.

By the time I went out it was raining heavily. Didn't stop till 2pm and started again in the evening. Seems to have rained all night. Glass has risen to almost 30" and it's warm. Ground is absolutely sodden, standing water on all the area of grass. Wendy is wearing her wellies!

Brad, some studies have been done and they suggest that whilst rates of pay are an important factor they are nowhere near as damaging as the bankers suggest. This also applies to banks moving cities after changes in regulations.

Ground is sodden in Barlick and everyone complaining about the weather...
