Re: BOB'S BITS

"Come what might she would be wild, untrammelled, free." James Joyce, Ulysses (on Gerty) Today is ‘Bloomsday,’ celebrated around the world in likely places and unlikely ones, and it’s several things. In the first place, Bloomsday celebrates the most momentous day in modernist fiction, for it’s the d...

I got a clear view at close range of a Ring Ouzel in Valley Gardens this morning. I knew they were about but have never seen one so close. Good to tell why Ouzledale was so named.... (LINK)

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

Slight improvement yesterday but we got rain again in the afternoon. At 20:00 it was dry and mild. First thing this morning it was mild, calm and we had broken cloud allowing sight of the full moon. (isn't it funny how the weather can change with the moon.....) Since then the cloud is more broken an...

Re: THE FLATLEY DRYER

One of the things that has changed completely in my lifetime is public attitudes to the LGBT community. I heard a piece on World Service this morning that prompted me to have a web furtle. Have a look at THIS article about the baritone Lucia Lucas. (She doesn't want to be called 'transgender', she i...

Re: READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

As I often boast I am one of the selct band who have actually read Das Kapital but I'll admit that it was the condensed version of Volume One in the 'Skeptical Reader Series' published by Gateway in Washington USA. This has all the essentials of the work but edited for the modern reader. I'd recomme...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

You would get fed up with eating out Maz..... I had a steak pudding on its own for dinner and for tea I cooked two Wild Sea Bass fillets in lemon and butter and had them with mixed frozen veggies. Lovely simple nutritious meal but expensive, the fillets cost £6 fresh from the van on the Square. But ...

Good link, good pics..... Ian turning up to help me with my bum coil. A bit of help is worth a lot of pity! Made my day and it started raining as he left to walk home..... Politics is a dirty game and it wouldn't surprise me Tiz. Everyone assumes that Brexit is the most important matter at the moment but this is far from the truth. The matter foremost in the Tory mind at the moment is surviving in power and we could see some surprising twists in the process that aims ...

"Little engines can do BIG things." The Rev'd Wilbert Vere Awdry. When our children were very small, and for quite a while after, we read them stories. They were discerning listeners (and soon become discerning readers), and among the more popular of their books were those from “the Railway Series,”...

Re: READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

P. The Wheen book arrived but I suspect I got the wrong one. This one is misleadingly called 'A biography. Marx's Das Kapital' and appears to be about the book and not the man. Wheen must have written two, I shall seek the other one out!
(I've found it. Ordered it for less than £3....)
