WHAT’S THE BEEF 01

WHAT’S THE BEEF 01 It’s always nice to find that you are in front of the curve. 15 years ago I wrote an article on mixed farming for ‘The Food Magazine’ and it was very well received. In case you hadn’t noticed, mixed farming has risen from the grave and is now a hot topic in farming circles. The gr...

Photographer of the mountain west, and its peoples. The platinum printing process gives the most beautiful image one can get. It has the longest scale and one can get the greatest degree of contrast. It's not a difficult process; it just takes time.   Laura Gilpin.      The Kodak ‘Brownie’ was a mar...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

I think I very nearly got scammed yesterday with what they call the Makita scam. I shame to say it but I was falling for it until Firefox stepped in and slapped my wrist. These frauds are so realistic! I forgot the Golden Rule, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. I admit to being human....

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

Yesterday afternoon's overcast was marred by the occasional spatter of rain but by 20:00 the cloud was breaking and it wasn't raining. First thing this morning it was calm, partially overcast but dry. The glass has fallen slightly to 1023mb and the forecast is for a brighter day and dry but overall,...

I shall be in the shed this morning starting on the next phase of making three crankshafts out of solid steel...... I know.... It's a long drawn out job but the end result, if done right, is beautiful and practical. Time is of no matter to me, indeed, the longer it takes the less my workshop experie...

Re: Seen in the News

I saw that report Peter and had the same reaction. I think the root of the problem is that they have no funding to actually make a difference and so in common with a lot of other public services all they can do in the way of action is issue denials and anodyne, weasel-worded statements. As a country...

I envy you you#re knowledge of chess David. They once tried to teach me the art at grammar school but failed miserably. It had no attraction for me whatsoever. I am very happy for you!

Glad to hear they patched you up successfully Pete.... I'll say it again, I am so lucky in these matters. Just the odd brush with cancer and diabetes.... which, as long as I am sensible, don't seem to cause any worries at all.
I wish you the same for the next 30 years Pete.... :good:

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

The triangular section of the ruler ensures that if it is set down on a piece of shafting it automatically adjusts itself to lying parallel with the centre of the shaft. It was used for marking key ways or similar cuts on a shaft. A very clever little tool.
