Morning Sue.... Don't get too engrossed in washing. Make sure you have a rest.
I am following my own advice and am off to bed for second sleep.

Church Street next to the Seven Stars in about 1900. For those of you who are reading Ernie's story in the Barlick 1900 post, this barbers shop is the one he was a lather boy at in the 1930s.

Re: Seen in the News
I have said many times that I was lucky enough to experience the glory days of driving and the older I get the more I realise that this applies to many other things. See THIS for more evidence that our kids are going to have a rougher ride than we did. Hundreds of thousands of homeowners have taken ...

BARLICK LIFE 1900 ONWARDS (4) If you had happened to be in Westgate on Christmas Eve 1924 you might have seen a eight year old lad staggering up the road with a turkey over his shoulder that was so big its head was dragging on the ground behind him. That’s right, it was our Ernie! I can hear you say...

I certainly didn't David.... :good: I think you are spot on with your assessment of Nadhim Zahawi . I reckon Natalie Elphicke is writing one as well. She needed her tergiversation to Labour to build up more material for it. I see we can expect 'bold ideas' from Mr Sunak in his election pitch. ( LINK...

These days I find it is wise to stay within reach of my own lavatory and bed, I never know when I will need them!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon was sunny, warm and close as it gradually clouded over. The thunder and lightning started at about 19:30, we had some rain but nothing serious. It lasted for two hours and I don't think it was ever directly over Barlick. This morning it is calm, overcast and dry. The glass is dow...

Rather, ten times rather, die in the surf, heralding the way to a new world, than to stand idly by the shore. Florence Nightingale. Surely one of the best known names in women’s history is that of Florence Nightingale. The name is a poem in itself, and the person who held it became legendary...

You're so close Tom I have to give it to you. That's the whole point of the gloves, when the palm wears out from husking corn, you reverse hands and off you go again with new palms. That's what they are, Corn Husking Gloves.
Not a lot of call for them here.....

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
I haven't finished the wobblers but how often do we have a day as good as today for an outside job? I have remounted the heavy latch on my back gate so that it latches positively but doesn't stick. I got rid of 3 8mm set screws and nuts in the process. No bad thing in an Imperial Shed!

I hope your tea stains come out nicely Sue.
We may be lucky today, the expected thundery weather looks to be a West Coast thing. Fingers crossed anyway. I hope you have a good day.

HERE'S another small piece of evidence of climate change. One of the most common types of mosquito has been identified for the first time in locations across Scotland, according to researchers at the University of Glasgow. They found 16 types of mosquito in Scotland, including the Culex pipiens, wh...
