Morning Sue! Nowt wrong with getting up early as long as you don't disturb Bob's beauty sleep! I hope the day goes well. All they need now is a base for each of them. They aren't runners, or at least I haven't tried them to see if t...

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

Yesterday we had more light rain showers than was forecast but it was never what you would really call wet. By 20:00 it had cleared up and we had dry weather but overcast. There were clear spells during the night and first thing this morning it was calm, clear and mild. Since then we have picked up ...

Re: Seen in the News

THIS is what caught my attention. This is Britain today..... When Heidi Dodson discovered she was going to be evicted, she reached out to her local council of Thurrock in Essex for help. But it rejected her application for priority housing and said she would cope if she ended up on the streets. Two...

Wood Cut of Bracewell Hall in Whitaker's 'History of Craven'. This was first published in 1805 and crude as it looks, this could be the most accurate depiction we have as it was almost certainly drawn originally from life.

Re: THE BRACEWELL STORY

THE EARLY BRACEWELLS IN BARLICK. (3) We’ve seen how the Bracewells got their family name and how the changes in society after the Black Death modified their view of themselves. By the late fifteenth century they had started to scatter. Bracewell is the only village of that name in England so we are ...

BARLICK LIFE 1900 ONWARDS(7) It’s 1932 and Ernie is 16 years old and weaving on four looms at Bancroft. In those days, before regulations were brought in which led to re-spacing of looms, there were 1100 looms in the weaving shed at Bancroft. They were crammed in as tight as they could get them. I a...

See THIS BBC report on the latest cunning plan to ease the pressure on the prisons that are running at 98% capacity. They are going to delay court cases that could result in a prison place being needed. At the same time, in another part of the forest see THIS . They are introducing another offence, ...

I shall be in the shed trying to get my wobblers right! But first I shall put my chicken in the oven to roast. It's that time of the week again! Later this morning I think a walk could be on the cards and a spell on traffic duty.

BARLICK LIFE 1900 ONWARDS. (6) We’re about to follow Ernie into the world of work but before we plunge into that, let’s have a look at some of the other things that formed part of his life. At one point I asked him what the status of Wapping and Westgate was in the 1930’s compared with other parts o...
