In a world even more liable to extreme weather events we should be taking notice and doing the maintenance on our watercourses.

Re: POLITICS CORNER

What is there left to say about our current political situation? The nation is in limbo as the Tories cannot govern, they have run out of policies, money and ideas. All they can do is chew away at their own majority. What are they clinging to power for? Prolonging the membership of the club and the ...

THIS account of how the infected blood scandal affected just one mother got my attention. How can politicians and lawyers string this matter out to the extent that people are dying before getting any compensation? Euan McDougall was just 16 when he died from Aids in 1994 after being infected with H...

Re: CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING

See THIS for more evidence that we are doomed! Fuelled by climate change, the world's oceans have broken temperature records every single day over the past year, a BBC analysis finds. Nearly 50 days have smashed existing highs for the time of year by the largest margin in the satellite era. Planet-w...

'Outsourcing' is a handy way of shifting responsibility for any mistakes onto other shoulders. Buttressed by the myth that private industry is more efficient. (See the railways for a comprehensive rebuttal of that argument! See THIS for another example of the genre.... A "nationwide issue"...

Yesterday afternoon we had sun but with some occasional spatters of rain. At 20:00 the overcast which had come in again was breaking and we had late evening sun under a partially clear sky. This morning it's calm and clear, we have stars in the sky! The glass is up again on 1025mb. The forecast is (...

My neighbour Ian made me a new back gate from scratch as the old one was rotten as a pear. He used hardwood but it must have been kiln dried as it warped over the winter. I need to do a bit of work on the latch as soon as the Wobbler panic is finished in the shed..... :biggrin2:
