Isn't there a saying that there is at least one book in all of us? Well I think I'm a bit too undisciplined to bring mine out at the moment but maybe sometime. Nolic

Its an oil tin for a loom. The oil was stored in the tin which hung on the side of the loom. The fine oil was applied with a feather to the bars where the ends of the picking sticks ran. Stanley knows what I mean eve=n if I don't know the names. Nolic

Wendy, many thanks. Its downloading now so I'll have a look at it.

I've looked at it, scrapped my excel spreadsheet and started using it. Very straightforward as you say. :goodidea: Nolic

Ian, only remember a few details from my dad. Allan was not a casualty of war as such but died of pneumonia shortly after volunteering and undertaking basic training. I have a feeling that he may have died before 1940. Thank you for your trouble. Nolic

Talk about going off topic Comrade. You've zipped from Dickens to Bronte in the flash of an eye. The plaque you saw in Cowan Bridge commemorates Charlotte working in the school there. She based Lowood in Jane Eyre on the school. Nolic http://www.haworth-village.org.uk/brontes/cowan-bridge/cowan-brid...

Re: Favourate Dicken's Novel - Do you have one ?

I love Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol, and David Copperfield. I think my favourite is one which is not in the usual Dickens genre - A Tale of Two Cities, my detailed knowledge of which got me through O level English Lit. Nolic

Hi rog, welcome back. I was certainly around Barlick in the 60's - still a very frequent visitor after we moved to Earby but I still do not recall a market on Brook Street. Sorry I don't remember Halstead's either. At the bottom left hand side facing Church Street was Wilkinsons/Harkers bakery and i...
