Re: CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING

It would appear that BP put them in at no cost to the lccal authority and people who use them to charge their vehicles pay for the electric. https://bpchargemaster.com/local-authority-offer/ https://bpchargemaster.com/polar/ Unless you have a source that says otherwise ? The writing is clearly on th...

Re: TIZER'S SCIENCE NEWS

Back in the days when we had a mining industry, similar tremors were caused on a regular basis by mining operations and nobody batted an eyelid. I doubt any one in say San Francisco would care unless it was above about 6.0 .

Its only a fluke in our genes that allows us to process milk as adults in the first place. Half the humans in the world are lactose intolerant. Thats the normal state of affairs for mammals that are done weaning.

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

I built the FM 3 in 2013 Stanley. Had a couple of upgrades since. The 2013 I7 processor is still in high end I3 / low end I5 desktop territory today. It is still faster than almost all laptops in 2019. Its certainly faster than anything in my collection of computers. I'd deny big kev a bit longer ye...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

I don't have an iron grip on OGFB, Ian has already taken over the day to day maintenance and encouraging donations etc and just pays me to keep the hosting going. Anyone who thinks they can do a better job is more than welcome to take over and do it any way they want. Indeed and nothing is cast in ...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

With a more typical Pentium or Celeron, 4GB of ram and a hard drive expect 3 hours + That's the one I've got. The annoying thing was that there was no indication that this was a major update before you set off. Once in you are told 'this may take some time' and ' your computer will switch of and on...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

VPS and AWS are just different ways of sharing a server multiple ways. Running just one operating system and and just sharing the hosting virtualisation (like we're doing now) is probably the best way to go. Or find a more expensive package where they don't put so many hosting packges per machine. B...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

At least an i3 processor, 8GB of RAM and a SSD for windows 10. With that it will do a major feature update in about 20 - 25 minutes. With a more typical Pentium or Celeron especially an old one, 4GB or less of RAM and a hard drive expect 3 hours + Unless you're a long way behind , Win 10 will have u...

No plans for an internal airflow. I plan to use the existing CH system. Pretty much like the existing gas boiler. I was thinking something like this : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6kW-18kW-AIR-SOURCE-HEAT-PUMP-WATER-HEATERS-COOL-ENERGY/112931218697?var=413318587279&epid=23026965229&hash=item1a...

Get over the smart meter phobia then it doesn't matter ? Many/most people do the school run because the roads are too busy to be considered safe for the kids to walk. Yep, its self defeating and dripping in irony, welcome to the world. Systems put in in the early 80's or before (before the advent of the combi) would usually have the pump as a seperate entitiy. . Modern thinking is that it's built into the boiler and is controlled by the same They are generally easier and cheaper to put it as there are less connections to be made. ...

The presence of a router log is router dependent , some of them just don't have them. They probably work on the assumption that almost nobody ever logs into a router, particularly with ISP supplied ones. Its geek territory.......

Now that I am retired and at home all day I don't see the point of timing the boiler activity or shutting it down in summer. I just leave the thermostat to look after it. I don't know whether you have noticed but the more modern boilers have an element in their programming that fires the circulatio...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

Talking TalkTalk routers do you know if the four ethernet outlets all enjoy the same output power that would be given to a single connection irrespective of how many are in use. I get the impression that as you connect more devices into the router then the power output to each one is reduced. Power...
