Field mushrooms and horse mushrooms are different varieties, but similar to look at.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

I only ever pick field mushrooms which are reasonably obvious, the only other fungi that looks similar will stain yellow when bruised or cut and doesn't smell like a mushroom, apparently it smells like Indian Ink!

Of course, the link is blocked here in China! I think Google Earth is the greatest free program ever launched and it is crippled here, not unobtainable, but slowed to a crawl and photos cannot be opened. Google search engine, another World-class winner, is also crippled. Yahoo is OK though. Microso...

He's running to encourage that huge animal to trot and show her action to the judge. Not to mention trying to keep up with a trotting horse ! Lovely animal. True, I would probably have to run to keep up with it's walking pace. I have precious memories of a farm in Nidderdale still using horses when...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

That's our third day of collecting them Ian, without straying much from our usual walk around the fields. We keep trying to ignore them but they look so tempting! I've never seen anything like it since we have been here, though there was a similar year when we were in Scotland, the weather condition...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

We couldn't help collecting more mushrooms on our morning walk so I am busy grading and processing them! Large flat ones for Colin's breakfast fry ups, nice button ones will do garlic mushrooms for lunch. I've sliced up the slightly more open ones to go in a tomato & onion sauce for the freezer and ...

Re: GOOD TV

I used to enjoy the Beechgrove Garden years ago when we were living in Scotland, they had a small and rough patch of garden back then, I think it was beside the TV studios in Aberdeen. Carole was a young lass and I think the first female gardener on TV. It was much more relevant to normal folk than ...

Most horse feed comes in 20kg bags and I can manage those reasonably easily, the hen food and grain comes in 25kg bags and though I can just about lift them I would rather not!

It's wet and windy here so I'm relieved that I managed to get most of the grass cut yesterday afternoon. I might do some tidying up in the polytunnel if I need to get out in the fresh air.....or make a start on tidying my "work" room which is in desperate need of attention!

Re: WE ARE WHAT WE EAT

I can't believe the coverage of this on the BBC news this evening, it bore no relation to the Lancet article whatsoever! Of course Colin will continue with his low carb diet, if he didn't he would be taking insulin and looking forward to losing limbs and suffering kidney failure within the next few ...

Wow Ian, thanks for explaining everything with your usual attention to detail. What a shock for you and the family, let's hope that progress is made quickly so you don't have to sit at home worrying for too long.

This is a response to the article in the Lancet from cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra. https://inews.co.uk/opinion/comment/diet-study-low-high-carb-best-healthiest-nhs-doctor/ And another from Dr Andreas Eenfelt who runs the excellent Dietdoctor website. https://www.dietdoctor.com/all-over-media-low-c...

Keeping Faith is getting increasingly ridiculous! Apart from anything else I get totally distracted by Faith's glowing make up which gets repaired and refreshed after every emotional scene.....i just can't believe in her at all, or the plain, dull, wicked witch of the West police woman and her child...

Frost shouldn't be a problem Bodger, there is insulation between the chipboard and the stone wall and Col has plans to form a cupboard round it. All pipework is plastic until it goes into the house. Fingers crossed it will be OK!
