Fulling mills also known as WALK mills. Guys who trod the cloth in vats of urine called WALKERS which is where we get the surname WALKER from.
A mill in Colne called Walk Mill on Green Road used by Hills Premier Polymers. Also a fulling mill in Skipton.

Hi Wendy, thanks for that. Have looked at the 1881 census again, the enumerator has not given a name for the farm after Salterforth Lane House and before Spen so the unnamed one must/may be Spen Head and he has totally missed Hayfields and Broadstones farms which are/were at each end of the mill in ...

The OS map names it Butts Beck as it passes Butts then Stock Beck when it reaches Stock and Gillians Beck where it approaches Ouzledale by 40 steps.
