Re: Miscellaneous genealogy resources
Stanley, I think you were a little previous with your earlier exclamation about this being Oneguy at its best, the above string is definately Oneguy at its best! What a wealth of information again Tizer, I must go back fishing around in the tree, I had a quick look but found no Levis; I have a feeli...

Re: Miscellaneous genealogy resources
The Slaters did the reverse journey to your ancestors, moving from Whilpshire (1792) to Salesbury (1818) to Whinney Lane (1861).
Surnames of interest: Slater, Heskin, Hesmondhalgh, Sharples, Whittaker, Fish, Aspden and Wilson.
It obviously is a small world.![Laugh :laugh5:](./images/smilies/board/icon_lol.gif)

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS
Yup, me too. Mind you, Blackburn twang got me once when a bloke said "Who's pinched my crowbar?" I told him I didn't know and he repeated it getting quite aerated. It turned out of course that 'who' was Blackburn for 'he'...... Another related word springs to mind. 'Thrutched' to describe...

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS
When I first went to the US I was intrigued by the notice I saw in cafes and restaurants asking customers 'Please bus your own tables'. I soon found what it meant, clear up after yourself. This reminds me that my mother always referred to clearing the table as 'siding'. Is this term a general one? ...

Almost every man and his dog told me how much the cortisone injection would be painful. I didn't find it to be so. I live to tell the tale. Am on light duties for a while so today I shall be mainly not doing what I want.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Two cortisone injections into my shoulder today. I plucked up courage a month or so ago only to be told that another doctor does the injection. Woe is me! I have told Honey not to pull on the lead (she always does for the first 400 yards) but she does not listen. Left handed walking tomorrow for bot...

We are going to the last day of Beer Barbecue and Band at the pub for this year. They put on a do each Sunday in August to attract people from the campsite, it helps offset some lean times during the year. Since moving here, mother has been enjoying village life and has taken a fancy to all the youn...

For those interested: take 1 clean cat tray and place "special non-absorbent" litter into tray, then in our case, wait 10 mins and job's a good'un. Pipette pee into small sample tube and take to vets on way back from NOT having a cortisone injection. Apparently today I had the appointment ...

Why is it necessary you smell n-Butanol? The smell test is done against a standard chemical for people who will be used on panels where smells have to be analysed "in the field". Environmental Health officers etc. probably will be tested to see if they can smell whatever coming from facto...

Glad you are feeling better Stanley. Today I was mainly wondering why we didn't measure the doorways when we chose a new (to us) suite. The settee looks lovely in the hallway, whilst the chairs are in the living room. We played house tetris and lost. We're reviewing the situation........

Apparently I can't smell n-Butanol at low concentrations. I tell you I concentrated hard! Hmmm! I am a bit sniffy about this, after all I am one of those that can tell rain coming in from the north west by the smell from the pig farm. And yes I agree with you, garlic, bleach, scent / perfume are all...

Late by a day, but Sunday 31st July 1966 was the date of my dad's best cricket score, 10 for 7! Will get out the cuttings next time I am round at Mum's. It was one of his proudest moments. (BTW his team won).

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
I couldn't agree more with the summer stove service. I am yet to black lead the outside, however the inside of my stove is cleaned and fine. Steve-in-Norfolk had to deal with blocked kitchen plumbing this week, the cause of which became apparent accidentally. I had been suggesting in a motherly way ...

Ooh Julie, a friend of mine got a Munsterlander last year, a magnificent dog...well bitch actually, but they need plenty work to do! I'll find out where hers was bred. Lovely photograph, thanks for that! They are as beautiful as they look. We went to see some at a show on Sunday. Now I'm looking in...

Today I shall be mainly taking Sam-u-el the span-u-el and his cohort Honey off for their quarterly pampering down at Dirty Dogs, the doggy hairdressers at Wymondham Station. It is tradition (and a guilty pleasure) to have breakfast at the station as there is a wonderful restaurant there.
