Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Morning Just reading the posts above , can I. Say that yesterday I too experienced a lagtime in both opening articles and in posting. I commented to Bob that something was up. Yesterday turned out better than expected, the thundery rain didn’t happen and what rain we had was light and short lived. W...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Morning It was definitely an indoor day yesterday. I nearly got my washing dry before the heavens opened, giving a mixture of rain, sleet and snow throughout the day. I dried the last of it in the drier or airing cupboard and so still managed to do the ironing. I then decoded to sew finding an old p...

Morning Our accommodation was lovely but it was so nice to sleep in our own bed last night, sleeping a solid 8+ hours. As Bob opened the curtains he saw the heron was standing in the shallow end of our pond, hopefully the fish were in the deep end. Wendy the snickleways walk was interesting though s...

Morning Good day yesterday . We spent some time and had lunch at the Railway museum. We then walked back into York in the rain in the direction of the Yorkshire museum but found it closed on Mondays, thus we did a bit of sight seeing and few snickleways on the way back to the bus. We have to be out ...

You can't keep a good shopper down! Are all the interesting shops buried in snicketts? Oh there are a lot of interesting shops everywhere Stanley, but certainly both fabric shops were. We have decided to stay dry in the railway museum today and do a short snicket walk in the morning tomorrow before ...

Re: Wine Lovers Corner

The increasing price of wine is often discussed in our wine group. Lidl comes out a good favourite for value for money but wine to drink now and not to save. The coop is also a good favourite for better wines at a good price.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Morning Today promises 50% chance of rain apart from lunchtime when it is 90%. We will have to browse the indoor things to do whilst navigating a few snickelways. Studying the book Wendy I think we did a few yesterday solving our mystery, which we did indeed solve as we sat working out our clues las...

That sounds like fun Sue! When my brother and sister in law lived in York I bought them this book about the Snickleways of York. I don't know if they ever used it, but I would love to! https://www.waterstones.com/book/a-walk-around-the-snickelways-of-york/mark-w-jones/mark-w-jones/9781871125771 Wel...

Morning Its a nice sunny morning here just outside York, I hope the wind has died down. It was a typical cold wind for over her on the east. It was hailing when we picked up our shopping in Oldham Tesco, but the sun came out at Leeds which, often seemed to happen when we visited my brother over that...

Morning Bob suggested to me that it might be your guttering. Its a cold windy day, rain forecast here but not in York. There it is sun and cloud, 4 degrees feeling like -1. Tomorrow is due to be 10/11 and sunny. We live in hope. We leave after breakfast and will pick up a Tesco order on the way over...

Hope your builder arrives ok. We too had a suspect patch on the lounge wall, our neighbour Jacuzzi David had a look, he relaid the flashing but could find nothing else but maybe porous brickwork and will spray it for us…when its dry. Though he may be in the jacuzzi that day. :laugh5:

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Morning After a good effort in the garden yesterday we managed to repot the drowning hydrangea. Bob drilled several more drainage holes in the pot, we tidied the root ball up and put it back with fresh compost mixed in with the old which smelt like bad drains. Bob then tootled off to the workshop an...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Sue, I wonder if the removal of the trees is causing the water problem in your greenhouse. A friend of ours took a big tree down and then had allsorts of water ingress they’d not had before. It will cause a water problem but in their garden. We think the water in the greenhouse is seeping under the...

If so this afternoon I will tackle removing the drowning hydrangea from its pot and replanting it in fresh soil, with trimmed roots and a better drainage, but this morning it is art at Haslingden Yesterday was busy , we started by visiting the garde...

Morning Yes my flags need a brush now but of course its raining today. Our jet wash is out in France, Kev. I could do with it here as we have a lot of paved areas, though the hose pipe does have a power nozzle. This morning I may go and buy some new rockery plants for the newly refurbished rockery, ...

Morning I tackled the algae on some paved parts of the garden yesterday, I think washing soda may be a bit harsh here if it gets washed on to the borders which are full of plants. Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS

I agree Rochdale speech had some idiosyncracies, but from my own experience, I wouldn't think rankle was one of them. I think we decided in 2012 that 'hoo' applied only to females. Hoo It is certainly one I hear a lot, however the area of Rochdale I live in has a lot of incomers and the peo...

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS

I recently read `the idea rankles with me' in a newspaper. I hadn't heard `rankles' for ages.... rankle (v.) c. 1300, ranclen, of a sore, wound, etc., "to fester," from Old French rancler, earlier raoncler, draoncler "to suppurate, run," from draoncle "abscess, festering so...

Morning What a beautiful day. In answer to your question Stanley we have had Heron problem but not recently. We now have a large net that spans three quartes of the pond up to the shallow end. The fish tend to prefer the deeper end. However we have caught cats and bigger birds trying to get into the...
