Its been quite a day for shipwrecks, The CEMFJORD in the Pentland Firth and the Hoegh Osaka in Southampton. What happened to these vessels will no doubt reveal itself.

The problem with bulk carriers is if water gets into the hold the cereal is being carried in, it swells causing splits in the hull that's why they go down so fast. The DTI an MCA wanted to make all Crude and Bulk Carriers Double Hulls it just hasn't happened yet.

For a while it was owned by TPT (Textile Paper Tubes) When the photo was taken it was probably part of the Sonoco group . They still have a factory on Station Rd in Milnrow.

Likewise if they died at sea they were taken off the payroll. Some wife or girlfriends income stopped just stopped at the drop of a hat.

I remember Peter doing that job on his house on Bridge St, Milnrow. Its location was handy for a swift half in the Tim Bobbin at lunctime.

I have worked on British Polar Engines in the past. On the clip I didn't see any bridge telegraph, although the engine controls where clearly displayed next to the Lesney valve (Air Start).
