Re: Family Matters

Two loos on the boat, Stanley. I asked the boys to use the outside one, but they flatly refused...so that became almost exclusively mine. The other was in the bathroom, so Mr Febby very kindly popped in there first thing to 'tidy up' before I went for my shower. Outside loo didn't have a washbasin, ...

Re: Family Matters

Cathy...I don't allow any drinks ( except breakfast Orange Juice) to be kept in the kitchen fridge, because they would be in and out of that fridge every few minutes if I did, meaning the fridge would have to work overtime in such temperatures and food may possibly spoil. They had a big ice chest on...

Re: Family Matters

I wish they would try it, Wendy. But I think they would all have acute gastro by the end of day 3. ( they refuse to follow the rules of handling and preparing food...I have tried to teach them over the years...given our extreme heat conditions and the flies that abound up the river. Have even seen t...

Re: Family Matters

( sigh)... ME of course! ( and the meal planning, buying of food, transporting of food, defrosting of the right food for the right day etc...and after the cooking they all disappear and there is no one to help with the dishes...typical houseboat holiday!) We had some lovely meals. I always put my he...

Re: SO, WHAT IS A CAT?

There must be other folk in Barlick who keep scratching their heads and wonder why every cat they get disappears down a black hole, Thomo. They are all at your place! Our neighbours recently took in a stray. The trouble is that they work all day and leave the cat out because it would trip their hous...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

Massive drug bust on our eastern seaboard. Great to here that half a billion dollars worth of ICE isn't going to find its way onto our streets. Police say they were alerted by a phone call from a member of the public.
Hope they get a lovely big reward...

Re: Family Matters

Have spent the last week with our combined families on yet another houseboat holiday. Weather warm and tropical, fantastic sunsets viewed from the spa on the top deck, wonderful week, waking to the sound of amazing bird song every morning ( so I feel a bit guilty saying I can't wait to get home, but...

Ah...see you found the budgie smugglers.
( be still my beating heart)

Bottom one looks like a cover for one of those viewers in a front door. Flip it to the side to expose glass viewer. They seem to have gone out of use these days.

Re: Family Matters

My thoughts were more in the realm of just how hard it would be for a parent to go through this for a child, Stanley.
I think the degree of difficulty would be so much more amplified.

Re: Family Matters

Panny...I was a child when my father died...and a ward of the state, so wasn't even entitled to an explanation of the circumstances at the time...no one to even give me a cuddle. It was expected ( somehow) that children in care were armour plated and more resilient than the general population! Some ...

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

I even have a fly net for mine, which thankfully is removable, because it is not a fashion statement. I only take my fly net on holidays to remote locations or 'up the river'. ( Febby way too fashion conscious to wear a fly net). I like to use both hands for other things rather than wave the flies a...

Tonight is ( wait for it) Salad...with Red Salmon flaked through. 39C here today after a very warm night ( the minimum did not drop below 30C all night).consequently feeling somewhat jaded and not in a mood to eat anything much at all. The water comi...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

Tip...try a thick layer of damp cabbage leaves on top. Will keep moisture in. ( and you can eat them afterward) I used to make a hot pot with Lamb Chops etc that I layered with all sorts and topped with the cabbage layer ( not made for years since I all but gave up red meat). But it was really somet...

Aye...one day they may discover the art of feeding themselves and nourishing a family. What is the bet they will believe they are the first generation to do so?! ( I am not joking about the females of today. Stepson took up with a thoroughly modern Millie who could make about 120 alcoholic cocktails...

Re: WE ARE WHAT WE EAT

The biggest tragedy is that many folk won't look beyond pre-prepared crap, Stanley. They are just too darn lazy. And we see it with our own kids who readily admit that coming to dinner at our house is great because of the fresh food and level of veg in a meal. My son can cook very well - I taught hi...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

This Sea Pie...I looked up a couple of recipes on the net...and it isn't seafood ( as we may expect, is it?) I believe it is layers of various meats and layers of pastry? Am I on the right path? Are there any veg? Salad again. Threw some hard boiled eggs, tinned Alaskan Salmon, and a wee drizzle of ...
