I'll live with the < 20p per day I'd save with Octopus. I give my granddaughter £1 for sweets and she looks at me like I short changed her.......

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Got an email to submit my meter readings which I've done and EDF say they are reducing my Direct debit to £81 from £90 because I'm paying too much for my current energy use. Can't complain....... :biggrin2:

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

No plans for an internal airflow. I plan to use the existing CH system. Pretty much like the existing gas boiler. I was thinking something like this : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6kW-18kW-AIR-SOURCE-HEAT-PUMP-WATER-HEATERS-COOL-ENERGY/112931218697?var=413318587279&epid=23026965229&hash=item1a4b39a509...

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Get over the smart meter phobia then it doesn't matter ? I've had them in to fit smart meters and I was turned down because of in insufficient room to fit the larger smart electric meter and the gas fittings were too inflexible to fit the larger smart gas meter. I've rectified the Electric meter sid...

I had my appointment with the Doctor. Referral to a neurologist, appointment for blood test and occupational therapist. Dr Jackson knew me and saw me stuggling in the waiting room. she didn't take any convincing that I had something serious and it had deteriorated. As the website said she hadn't hea...

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS

I'm a stranger in this thread. A medical issue I've been ignoring for years has recently been pushed to the front of the queue. I have long had difficulty standing up from sitting and its gradually been getting worse. My mother had the same symptoms and it degenerated to the point where she competel...

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Many/most people do the school run because the roads are too busy to be considered safe for the kids to walk. Yep, its self defeating and dripping in irony, welcome to the world. I'm of the opinion (along with most scientists) that electric cars are only a partial solution and the real problem is to...

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Systems put in in the early 80's or before (before the advent of the combi) would usually have the pump as a seperate entitiy. . Modern thinking is that it's built into the boiler and is controlled by the same They are generally easier and cheaper to put it as there are less connections to be made. ...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

The presence of a router log is router dependent , some of them just don't have them. They probably work on the assumption that almost nobody ever logs into a router, particularly with ISP supplied ones. Its geek territory.......

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Now that I am retired and at home all day I don't see the point of timing the boiler activity or shutting it down in summer. I just leave the thermostat to look after it. I don't know whether you have noticed but the more modern boilers have an element in their programming that fires the circulatio...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

Talking TalkTalk routers do you know if the four ethernet outlets all enjoy the same output power that would be given to a single connection irrespective of how many are in use. I get the impression that as you connect more devices into the router then the power output to each one is reduced. Power...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

Barlick, not enough spare resources to give you another pair. BT are probably well aware of the problem, but without spending a ton of money, which they'll be unwilling to do in a backwater, they'll let it ride and fob you off. Maybe Elon Musk's Starlink will get here first..... https://en.wikipedia...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

From experience email addresses from an ISP usually work when you leave them. BUT, they have no incentive to maintain the status quo and if they decide to have a cleaning up session on their infrastructure at some point your email may go the way of the dodo. Sign up to a free email that is independe...

that the biomass powered stations are less carbon efficient than coal and they are contributing. Much of the biomass is coming from America where trees are dying through disease possibly aggravated by temperature change. The argument goes that this wood would only decay to carbon so why not burn it...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

I'm fundamentally a cheapskate at heart, but I get involved with a lot of cheap laptops being overwhelmed by Windows 10 especially during updates. In comparison to what I would consider daft priced computers (any thing Apple or some gaming machines) £450 is modest, but in £200 land it isn't. I have ...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

Modest often equates to El Cheapo..... Like Panbiker, I can't agree with that Stanley. I think we're having different interpretations of the word `modest' here. I would regard Pluggy's `£450-ish' as modest after most of the laptops I saw in my web search yesterday were over £500 and many were over ...

Don't get a "modest" priced laptop with Windows 10, it will drive you nuts when it updates which is a frequent occurrence. Minimum i3 processor, 8GB Ram and an SSD if you want to keep your sanity. Think £450 ish.
