Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS

Pee - as if! Attending to a forgotten corner of the Windle and Bowker property - their fenceposts on the boundary had succumbed to age and n'er do wells were creating a track over the planting to the hidey hole at the back. I was putting a couple of posts in to re-erect the fence. May discourage oth...

Thanks for comment about volunteers Stanley. Team reported you were inspecting work at back of bus shelter yesterday. Don't know if this has been posted on here previously. I picked it up from Gus's 'Now and Then' fb page. http://www.oneguyfrombarlick.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=9&image_id=...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

30 odd years ago, campaigning for recycling facilities was one of my big issues and I remember the jubilation when we succeeded in getting our first bottle bank. After that, an extensive network of recycling skip sites were developed. The one in the centre of Barlick being on the main car park off W...

Sentence in BBC report of withdrawn Trump plans for wall to protect golf course:

"At 4m in height and 20m wide, the 200,000-tonne structure would have required some 200,000 tonnes of rock for construction."

My keyboard is still wired...

The letters on the popular keys have worn off (not a problem), but now the nibs on the home keys are wearing away; need to start saving up for a new 'un.

Re: Street in Barnoldswick

Almost certain it's Park Road before houses were built beyond Park Street and Park Avenue (which can be seen furthest from the camera). The junction of Beech Street in on the right.

Looks like a shop where the chippy is now.

Re: POLITICS CORNER

In terms of by-elections, the 1991 Ribble Valley By-election - where we overturned a massive Tory majority - caused the Poll Tax to be scrapped. (I remember it well as I was involved with campaigning from day 1 before the party by-election team turned up.)

Maybe Richmond will be equally momentous?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

Kev and Stanley are correct about drain coverings... and I'd remind members that we don't have gangsters in Barlick! The location is however on Skipton Road, which was surfaced dressed in 2015. I finally got the gulley sucker to deal with a number of blocked road drains (gulleys) a few weeks ago and...

Think that gives me an intro to mention one of my Liberal predecessors as county councillor for our area - Dr Pickard. My colleague Tony Greaves recounts the tale of Dr Pickard's suggestion to deal economically with icy roads; he suggested adjustable 90 degree bends on the ends of exhaust pipes. In ...
