Re: Spellchecker

Thanks for that Doc. I checked my add ons and plug-ins in the FF browser on my laptop, some needed updating (done). Turned out to be the browser spell checker extension which had been turned off, must have been done automatically as I certainly have not touched it. It was flagged as update available...

Re: Barlick War Memorial Research

Thanks for that Jamie, I am currently looking for Barlick lads from the Second World War and later. If you are new to the site you will have missed all Thomo's previous postings about his findings on the First World War casualties that we believe are missing from our memorial. All of this research i...

To compliment The Swing Commanders, we also have our good friends Peter and Jeff, "Company B" who will be spinning the discs on the night. Swing, Lindy, Waltz, Balboa, Foxtrot, Stroll, whatever takes your fancy. They are awfully nice chaps and will take requests for you favourite tunes if ...

Re: The Barlick War Memorial Group

A bit more about why we have the Memorial Gardens in the first place. This is related from what my dad told me, it all makes sense when you think about it. Millions of young men had been put through the mincer of the Western Front, the carnage of the event was unbelievable and as we know entire comm...

Re: The Barlick War Memorial Group

I thought I had read in BET recently, that the area had been power washed to remove the inevitable build up of algea on the steps and surrounding paving. It was quite slippy underfoot when wet, I noticed this shortly after the Remembrance Service. I don't think it is too bad now but will check again...

Re: The Barlick War Memorial Group

The Cenotaph was "Parked" in its current location because that particular corner of land had no defined use when the cenotaph was moved for very good reasons from Letcliffe. Not strictly true Ken, the memorial is sited where it is by design and not simply "parked" on any bit of ...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

It was yesterday actually but wat attracted my attention was a report in the BET from 1983 showing Stanley in a sharp suit taking up his new post at Pendle Heritage Centre. I came across the report while I was researching the year for moving the war memorial to it's present site. Findings of which w...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

The entrance to the site is on Bank Street however you are correct in that the existing building is oriented at right angles. If houses are built the same and I suppose they would have to be to fit on the plot they will be an extension of Hill Street.

Re: Bugs in the Archive

Doc, I assume that if you can eventualy rejig the archive site with a later SQL index point to get the data nearer to the 21st Jan the bots will only have to re-index the extra data they find won't they?

I hope that's the case anyway.

Re: TIZER'S SCIENCE NEWS

I think a decision was made fairly early in the war not to jam the German broadcasts at it was thought they were doing themselves more harm than good. It was technically feasible to block the signals but time better spent on more important things like radar. Lot's of the existing radio amateurs in t...

It's a bit more inviting this way Brad and no need to go to the YouTube site, just play in window, just like FB. The one you have edited 3 times looks to have a bit too much info in the string - ditch the end bit of text I think.. Well that's one way of doing it. If it wont bend to your will, kill i...

Re: TIZER'S SCIENCE NEWS

Another question has been triggered. Ian, I seem to remember a mate of my dad's who was a Ham in the early days explaining the Heavyside Layer (?) to me in 1944 and talking about bouncing signals off it. Have I got this right, is it the same thing as ionised auroral layers? I think we covered this ...
