Re: Winter 2016/17

Following the Environment Agency warnings for those on the coast in Norfolk and Essex, I was pleased to learn that our house is 41 meters above sea level. That makes us at just about 1/4 the height of Blackpool Tower. Our Yarmouth based employees were twitchy at work yesterday, a lot of them are Eas...

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY

It took years of procrastination before I went for a free test at Specsavers. (Other opticians are available). What I had was a free hearing test to determine whether my hearing was dodgy, if it were so they would have sent me to the GP who would have sent me back for a free hearing aid. I don't kno...

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY

Based on yesterday's changes..... If you're worried about your hearing deteriorating try improving the quality of your domestic radio and record player! I've just been down this particular route, Steve was convinced my hearing is poor and I was convinced that he mumbles, one hearing test later, iss...

It's also worth remembering that the Clarion Movement started when W H Smith's refused to distribute Robert Blatchford's socialist newspaper, the Clarion. The cyclists did the distribution. This is of course also the genesis of the Clarion Club House at Dimpenley. I wish I had known that 2 years ag...

Happy New Year to all. I love a fresh start and have plans for 2017, the start of 2016 wasn't so good so I lost direction a bit. Seconds away, round one!

Re: THE FLATLEY DRYER

That's just reminded me, can you remember the SOS messages that used to be delivered on air by the BBC if someone was dying and close relatives couldn't be located and informed? Steve and I thought these messages were code for spies abroad, telling them they had been "rumbled" and needed ...

Re: WE ARE WHAT WE EAT

Today, we hope to finish up the goodies we brought into the office for our pre-Christmas lunch. Little actual planning had gone into this feast, Whereas normally we decide exactly what is to be on offer and from whom, we left it more open, and had another couple of people join us. Luckily my Christm...

Our condolences are with you Stanley. It was great that she came over so you could see her; and I know that talking together and the understanding you both gained from that was the best thing for both of you. Thinking of you and your family. Julie and Steve.

Always a fan of Liz Smith, as I am of anything written by Peter Tinniswood. I only watched her demise as Nana the other day and teared up.

Having family round for dinner, stopping Samuel-the-spanuel from meeting mother (they wouldn't understand each other), and cooking goose. Happy Christmas everyone. :elf:

Relaxing after a weekend of celebration of my 60th birthday. I promised to party for 60 days and so far: we went to see comedian Rich Hall, we went to see the Specials, we had a Madness weekend in Minehead with other ska and reggae bands also, we went to York and back on a steam train, we arranged f...

Inherited my dislike of Brussel Sprouts from mother, father loved them. Interestingly, because of her deep knowledge of genetics, I also knew why we didn't like Brussel Sprouts.

Re: WE ARE WHAT WE EAT

I have two comments about the diabetes string.

1. Verner Wheelock are a great place providing training, I have been there myself.

2. I had an amusing birthday card, or it may have been a warning: Mark has 40 pieces of cake, he eats 38, what has he got now? Diabetes.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Today I shall be mainly licking the wounds of what was my bank account. A suspect leaking valve turned out to be a slightly buckled wheel, due in no doubt to the many potholes I try to avoid when driving. Then the addition of anew tyre needed. Then I got home and Honey (Sam's best mate) wouldn't put...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

I always think of this topic a day late, so yesterday I was mainly travelling to York by steam, however Network Rail failed the Duchess of Sutherland on gauging between March and Ely so we didn't pick her up until Peterborough. Although the old dear has done the journey several times (I went on it m...

Recovering (quietly at work) from the Madness "House of Fun" weekender at Minehead, and the very wet journey home. Sleep came easily to me last night.
