Re: MEDICAL MATTERS

Young Steve in Norfolk has had shingles for the 3rd time these last few weeks. If anyone is offered a shingles jab, I would recommend taking it up.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

We went to Wheateley Lane Inghamite today, crikey is it overgrown. I couldn't find what I was looking for despite having found it about 10 years ago. It needs a trim, is there a lack of funds? What can we do?

The word used for the friends part (as queried above) was pals, so g.grandma Hardacre had calling pals.

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS

My Great Grandma had "calling chums or friends". Not sure about which word she used for the friend part. She was Brierfield born and bred, born in Shed Street and lived at Castle Street for the entire 26 years I knew her. She also used to stand in for her daughter, my grandma, if grandma w...

I'm back on track! I've had a conversation with a chappie who has also done some research on my family name and believes the same connections as I do so I'm back onto fanciful imaginations as to how I can pin the theory down. Oh, and he has also given me copies of some wills to transcribe.

Is it soft water you have up there? (from memory I think so). Down here in "terribly hard water Norfolk" we always have to double up on washing powder / liquids as a minimum.

I do tend not to read things that say "read me". It is a failing. There is a match between what I have been looking at and the topic in this archive. It is well worth a look at for those of an inquisitive nature. I shall trudge on.

Roy Price Archive

I was doing a little research today on the internet and came across a likely relative being cited in the Roy Price Archive on the North Craven Heritage site. Big questions! http://www.northcravenheritage.org.uk/NCHT/RoyPriceArchive/f2.htm#RANGE!C383 Were all the references, especially the court case...

In the days before mass media bill-sticking was rife. I always said that reading these helped me to learn to read. I remember my mother used ...

I note that there are reports of private back yard poultry being allowed outside in spite of the bird flu ban. This will be affecting Wendy...... There is a lot of heartache at the moment for lost flocks, be they small or large. It may cause some businesses to go under. https://www.theguardian.com/...

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY

There has been a lot of work done by industry both at farm and at abattoir to reduce the incidence of campylobacter and the cross contamination from carcass to carcass. The hazards are just the same as described, but we are hoping that the incidence is reducing. This information, also from Defra The...

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY

The current government and industry advice here is not to wash poultry before cooking. There has been a lot trials that show that you splash a lot of rinse water over draining boards, taps and for those who didn't know, draining washing up. I had a bout of Campylobacter about this time last year and...
