Re: POLITICS CORNER

It also means that the pavements will be clear. There's no intention on the part of the area committee to require business owners to remove their wares, or tables or chairs, from the pavements. The committee took the view that such activity added to the street scene and asked that the powers that b...

Re: POLITICS CORNER

I was hoping for some kind of Tracy Island TB1 launch effect / Wallace and Grommit of keeping the marquee under some kind of retractable flagstones , said marquee popping up as required, with flip over planters/ tables for cafe use. (Now I've worked out the quote function...) The old Co-op cellars ...

Am certainly enjoying recuperation, Kev. A couple of hours last night with daughter Lucy listening to mutually acceptable music, reading and googling. This morning, it was off to the the Eagles' Hotel California, now it's Woodstock - beginning with Santana on very loud. The kids loved my air guitar ...

Thanks for all the links, which I'll follow up - including the visitbarnoldswick one Kev!

Just hoping we can muddle through for a while and we don't get panicked by a cold snap into getting it wrong.

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Cheers Ian. We too have the boiler mounted on an internal wall with a 3m run to the outside. Fortunately, this is in an accessible void which complies with the new regs. Our condensate drains internally into (larger) waste pipe serving adjacent bathroom. (This is good news when you get very cold win...

Tizer, reading some of your travails at the hands of local government, I'm not surprised if you have a jaundiced view of the genus! Perhaps your experience might have been different if you'd been dealing with the particular species we have round here? Or maybe, it's the local government ecosystem th...

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Thanks Stanley. Will do that. The HW tank is a super insulated modern one and it acts as a heat sink in the heart of our house, so am not keen to get rid of, but will consider the option. The exigencies of the situation are such that replacing the boiler but keeping the system more or less as is oth...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Getting ready this morning for a family gathering of the clan Whipp. I invoked my recent major op to convene a get together at our place today. The reason for the meet is to discuss whether Herbert Ewart Whipp should be added to the names of those who lost their lives in the first world war on the n...

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Anyone got good recommendation for a new gas boiler?

Existing boiler kaput.

Ours is a sealed system and the boiler feeds a hot water tank as well as CH circuits.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

The grainy images of searching futilely through the wrecked school are a vivid memory for me. As a schoolchild, I could easily put myself in the shoes of the disaster victims. What caught my attention was the warmth (not) of my shower... Whilst getting my own personal plumbing sorted out, back home,...

OK... Now I've got an issue of principle with making a donation. The form requires me to choose a county. As we all know, Barnoldswick is in the historic West Riding of Yorkshire. If I want to complete a valid form, I probably have to click on Lancashire... Since we got our own delivery office and p...

Anyhow, what attracted my attention was view when I opened our front room blinds of the the magnificent rainbow arching over the sunlit autumnal tinted trees (beech, maple and birch) beyond the bottom of our garden.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

The commission's proposals won't be implemented before the next General Election ('cos the linked deal over Lords reform broke down). We'll have to wait and see if an incoming government proceeds with such changes. IMV, the revised proposals are better than the original ones (which would have seen B...

Our broadband was down when I got up this morning (6.30am). After unplugging router to no avail, I thought 'they' may be working on lines. When it came back on, I'm getting 10mbs to my wifi linked laptop. We're on Pipex, which I think has been taken over by Talktalk?

Thanks folk. I know a lot of the guys that live locally 'in the flesh' as it were (and they know me). Prior to op, I typically worked a 12 to 14 hour day, so restricted activities at the moment give me a chance to spend time doing new things (inc OGFB). Will have to see how energy levels and intrusi...

Barnoldswick in Bloom is a group on the lines of what Stanley is suggesting. As well as lots of flowers and trees, the group has been behind planting up existing beds at the Rainhall Centre with erbs and hedibles. This year, we created two new raised beds in the yard at the centre. Planted up with w...

Re: POLITICS CORNER

As mentioned by Tardis, I wasn't at the meeting, so don't know the detail of the 'parasol possibilities' put forward. Any proposals for new stuff being put on the square, or in the town centre, will need to be considered carefully to make sure they are right. The local area committee has suggested t...
