Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

Liz...miss ya! Hope life is treating you well... Thanks Maz. Yes all good with us. There's been a few problems with the remaining older family members. And still it goes. The scotch eggs were OK as far as the baking went but.... I didn't put enough meat around the eggs so it shrunk back a bit. I wi...

I've made scotch eggs and I'm going to bake them rather than fry them. Hopefully it will work.

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Sorry the Internet access has been crap. We've spent the last 2 weeks in Cornwall & now we're back in Aus. I'm doing a catchup. Thank you for all this info.

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Stanley, we also have solar panels & it makes a big difference to our bill too. When we installed it there were incentives & we got 35 cents per kWh to put energy back into the grid. Now the incentives are gone & we only get 11 cents per kWh. Still worthwhile but no where near as good. W...

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Thank you for that. It was as we thought. It seems ridiculous to us that in Aus we get next to no subsidy for installing solar. We are paid 11 cents per kWh for what we put back into the grid but we pay up to 30cents per kWh to buy power. Very few wind farms and no solar farms.

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

We've just spent the last week in Cornwall and there were a lot of solar farms around. We would never see those in Aus because of the cost in establishing them. Can someone give me some info about them please? For instance are they commercial, are they subsidised? Loved Cornwall but I can't say I'm ...

Easy to make lasagne in the microwave. I've never done it any other way.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

Maz, I bought a portable induction hotplate and it is the best thing I've ever bought. $50 in Kmart. I take it camping and use it in the house. Before you buy another hotplate consider induction.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

Sounds like you need to initiate a 'bring a plate of something you can eat'. We have someone in our family who 'couldn't' eat gluten. Turned out it was just because it was trendy, not for any health reason. She gave it up because she got sick of watching other people enjoying food!!

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

Just make sure there is enough for tomorrow Maz. Shops are open again on Saturday. I do the same as you and always end up with things I can't eat, like cheese and dips; I give it to visitors to take home. You were making some great bread if I remember. If you have all the ingredients ready everyone ...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

I think it depends on the brand and the preservatives they use in the tins. I don't use them any more either. I just microwave 'real' spuds instead if we have power in the van, if not we do without. I carry snow peas and asparagus with us in the fridge. I just pour boiling water in them for a couple...

Re: Kitchen Refurb

The tiler who did our refurb in our holiday house did that too. He put both the toilet and the vanity basin down on top of the tiles. The vanities in this house all hang from the walls, about a foot off the ground, so it's not a problem. We tiled up the walls to the height of a skirting board too. I...

Re: PET'S CORNER

It's been very sad in our house this week. We had our little dog, Connie, put to sleep on Monday. She was almost 15 and had been very well up until just after Christmas. It turned out she had a tumour behind her eye which was also pressing on her brain. We have buried her in the garden and bought a ...

When I was involved in the local pony club we used to arrange for the equine dentist to visit annually. Everyone was invited to book their pony in for a check up. It was amazing how many owners had no idea that it was necessary.
