Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS

When I was a lad and in the church choir I was at two services and Wickliffe Sunday School every Sunday and in both the King James version was used. Makes you realise what an influence it was on the way we use language.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

No heating needed, stove not lit till 4pm and it was still alight even though it had not been fired for 34 hours. Not much to grumble about there and a sign that we are moving out of winter. David Mills (Tessa Jowell's husband) is the focus in court in Italy again over the allegation he was paid by ...

Re: The Barlick War Memorial Group

The thing that keeps coming to my mind is the reason the Memorial Gardens on Kelbrook Road was virtually abandoned. Being away from the Town Centre it was not seen or visited by most people and became a hotbed of vandalism. I still think that the present site is ideal. It is part of the townscape an...

Re: SPRING 2012

Same here, wet morning but a very pleasant afternoon. Clear sky this morning, mild breeze, colder but fresh and dry. Glass risen to 30.2" and looks as though it could be a decent late February day. We have been very lucky and on Wednesday we slip into March. There is hope for us yet!

You got there before me David. That struck me as well, an unusual name. Only problem is that 'Tressell' was a nom de plume. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Tressell

David, I remember that route well. My dad was works manager at General Gas on Corporation Road and I spent quite a lot of time there as a lad even though we lived seven miles away at Stockport.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

An old mystery solved this morning. When I was driving I occasionally passed a large ruin that stuck out like a sore thumb in the fields and it always intrigued me. I heard a reference last night on TV, looked it up this morning and it's Torksey Castle. See this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To...

It's the whisky and the black tobacco Tom. Like creosote, if they dig me up ten years after they bury me I'll still look as good! You'll be welcome any time.

All right, it's a block of lead and the knuckle duster is now part of it so we're legal. Question is, what would a bloke want a lump of lead like this for?

Knuckle duster was easy. You'll be pleased to know it is no more. Melted down this morning. Sorry Tom, Kevlar is not right. Very obscure, I doubt if anyone will get it.

KELBROOK PART THREE

KELBROOK PART THREE Life is all about change over time and like it or not, we have to accept it. I was once talking to Charlie Lancaster in the Heifer and asked him about old age. He told me that in Kelbrook the old people didn't die, they dried up like horse muck and blew away. Unfortunately the sa...

Brad#s got it exactly. It's not original but a very good repro and I was given it as a present many years ago together with a pre-cut quill and a book on calligraphy. Never got hooked!
I'll have to find another one now won't I...... Anyone else got mystery objects stowed away in a cupboard?

CUNNING WHEEZES

Here's an article I wrote before the new platform arrived. It triggered a topic and after seeing a programme last night on the iniquitous manipulation of ticket prices on C4 Dispatches it struck me that it could be a good forum to report advertising scams and other cunning wheezes. CUNNING WHEEZES W...

Eric Joyce charged with three counts of common assault. He should be ashamed of himself, all that privilege and what does he do? Behaves as though he was in the Spinner's Arms on a Saturday night. He's been suspended by the party and the case comes to court on the 17th of March. By election in Falki...

Moh, there's half a bag of medium oatmeal as well. You can't beat having a few staples in the store cupboard! You're right about the size of the bathroom. Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

If you are unemployed, the nearer the venue is to home the better. If an employer is serious it doesn't need a lot of effort to attend all the fairs. At the very least they could be taking the names of those interested to know about any vacancies.
