Re: DRUGGED TO DEATH PART 2

I still believe we should be aware of this history and in particular my questions about modern dosing of children and old people.

Re: OBITUARIES

See THIS BBC obituary for Duane Eddy. American guitarist Duane Eddy - hailed by many as one of the founding fathers of rock and roll - has died aged 86. His death occurred on 30 April in Franklin, Tennessee, his wife Deed said. The cause was cancer. The Grammy-winning artist had a run of instrumenta...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

I saw THIS report. What would it be like to meet one of our closest human relatives from 75,000 years ago in the flesh? Scientists have produced a remarkable reconstruction of what a Neanderthal woman would have looked like when she was alive. It is based on the flattened, shattered remains of a sku...

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS

Poll is a word we use frequently. I was sure I knew the origin but went off into the bushes to check.... "Middle English (in the sense ‘head’): perhaps of Low German origin. The original sense was ‘head’, and hence ‘an individual person among a number’, from which developed the sense ‘number of...

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

Yesterday was a rerun of the day before and at 20:00 it was calm, mild and dry with a bright overcast and evidence of an earlier spatter of rain. This morning it's calm, clear and mild. The glass has fallen slightly to 1004mb and the forecast is for an overcast but dry day. A good day for the polls....

Re: POLITICS CORNER

I heard a Tory MP chortling and saying that the single passenger 'proved' that Rwanda was safe and a tourist destination. I can't quite see how paying one person to go there on what was almost certainly a free flight proves any such thing. See THIS for a reminder, if you needed one, that today is th...

THIS ONE didn't get away. An amateur angler has landed what is believed to be the UK's biggest ever fish caught by rod in freshwater. Darren Reitz, 34, a binman from Rainham, east London, said "luck" was key to catching the "monster" catfish, which weighed 143lb (64.4kg). Mr Rei...

Wild Bill's Calamity Jane. Seems a lot of men never saw one such as me.   Attributed to Martha Jane Canary, aka ‘Calamity Jane.’     Among the reasons to devalue campus secret societies are the agonies they sometimes inflict during their ‘initiation’ rituals.   Indeed some ‘pledges’ (as neophytes ar...

See THIS report of a stabbing in Sheffield this morning. A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for attempted murder after three people were injured at a school in Sheffield. Officers were called to Birley Community College, now known as The Birley Academy, on Birley Lane at 8.50am this morning after r...

I shall be in the shed at 06:00 and hopefully I shall finish the major turning of the third crankshaft. Self inflicted pain I know but so much better than the built up shafts that Stuarts advise. It does me good to see them sat on the kitchen table, not many people would know how to make them..... A...
