Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Pluggy called in yesterday to massage the Flying Machine and he was admiring the stove and how warm the house was. I told him that in the first month of burning it was using just over £1 of fuel a day and this in the coldest weather this year. The CH is only firing from about 3am to 6am and that for...

Re: POLITICS CORNER

Crunch time in Greece this weekend, if the government can put the more stringent austerity measures into law the bail-out can go forward. If they can't, default looks inevitable. Either way the Greek population is facing a disaster in both economic and sovereign terms. Things may become clearer next...

Small world Moh! My memory of the name of the man we bought it off isn't clear, certainly not Hindle and could have been Walker? He went to another shop up in the Dales I think. Why does the name Maureen Hindle ring a bell?

Snap Sue! The after effects still linger but Doctor Green will cure them! Keeping warm, reading and being very careful when walking! I felt sorry for Pluggy yesterday, he came to sort my Flying Machine and was hampered by the fact he still needs a walking aid after his broken leg. Not the best combi...

We covered Jet Stream recently. Latest research suggests that sunspot activity is one of the major perturbation factors. We are going through a high activity period at the moment.

Moh, you have brought back many memories! I used to live with a woman who loved Opium and it suited her. Lovely heavy perfume. I was once in a group at a Further Education training session at Chorley and we each had to make a statement that was completely different than the ones we had already heard...

Dave, I share your doubts! I saw a report the other day that MacDonald's source 85% of their chicken and seafood from Thailand and adjacent countries and most of their beef from Argentina. Saw a film at the time of the Avian Flu scare where chickens were kept in cages above ponds where fish and praw...

David, butcher is known to me and his wife confirmed the story. Definitely kosher. Whippy, funny how good rock salt did a better job for all those years! Grit in mixture give mechanical grip and only becomes useful when temperature drops below the level where the salt is working. This is far lower t...

Ian re getting out of the loop. Janet and Harry always assumed that as the languages they were operating in were becoming obsolete, so would their marketability. Turned out they were wrong and when they went back to Oz they were soon sought out and head hunted. Never looked back!

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

A local butcher got a telephone call early yesterday morning from a lady who wanted to know if his stocks were adequate enough to supply quite a large quantity of prime cuts of meat. He listened to the list and said that he could do it and asked the delivery address. It was in London but the lady sa...

ARTICLE 001 KELBROOK PART ONE In July 1956 (was it really 56 years ago?) the Queen decided she could do without my services guarding Berlin so she sent me home to Civvy Street. This was a life event in itself as anyone who did National Service will attest but it was made more interesting for me beca...

Heather same problem with Jack and other dogs, exuberance and normal hierarchy sorting looks like a full on attack but of course isn't. I don't know of any 'cure' and don't worry, I just put up with the flak when it happens. One consolation, age takes the edge off, she will get better. As for the ma...

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY

Cathy, one of the big problems with nuts is that a lot of them have been in storage for months before we get them. One tip I learned many years ago was that colour film keeps fresh longer if stored in the fridge.
