Tizer, To follow up on your question. Schoolboy science comes in to play. Water turns into steam at 212f/100c. If you have less volume of water it will turn to steam quicker. Ellenroad and Garfield have had their moments in producing heavy black smoke. That was about 40 years ago, if I remember. Ronnie my father cleared the flues out on a few occasions.

Isnt life strange? I have lived in the USA for nearly twenty years now. Last time I was at Ellenroad was around 1999.
Unbelievable that an engine in an obscure part of the world could pull so much interest internationaly.

I had a Birthday recently and I unexpectedly got a present from an old shipmate. A bottle of Pussurs Rum. Not the regular Navy Rum, but the syrup kind you have to water down. Standard Navy issue. I havnt seen this around for years. Still goes down well.

The decking on the floors at Ellenroad was wood (which over the years was saturated with oil). Was this removed before the demolition, Stanley?

Looking at the pictures the ships stern seems to be in deep water. So it will still be able to use its own power in assisting recovery
