Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

I've just been out in the back yard. They weren't kidding when they forecast -6C wind chill. That wind is bitter!

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS

I used the phrase 'scot free' this morning and looked up the origin.
"From Middle English scotfre, from Old English scotfrēo (“scot-free; exempt from royal tax or imposts”), equivalent to scot (“payment; contribution; fine”) +‎ -free. n. Money assessed or paid."

Bumped again. The Turner cords did shrink to fit with 40 degree washes and I am still relatively free from back pain. The one that's taken over is pain in my right leg that hampers walking. However, I am in my 89th year so I can't expect to get off scot free!

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS

A couple of days ago while I was reducing my shaft stock in the shed a red hot chip landed on my lip and welded on. Painful but what has followed is that it has triggered off my first cold sore for years. Of course, like any other sufferer I had a tiny tube of Zofirax in the cupboard and it is worki...

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

Yesterday the light showers persisted all afternoon but by 20:00 had fallen away and it was breezy and dry. This morning first thing it was wet and windy and that hasn't really changed much, just that the rain isn't as heavy now. The glass has fallen to 997mb and the forecast is simple, wet and wind...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

I had chicken and veggies X three for breakfast dinner and tea. The lamb shanks were roasted, the gravy went in with the veggies and after they were deboned I augmented my chicken and veggies with a nibble of lamb.....
Very nice fresh taste......

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

I shall be in the shed at 06:00 and know exactly what I shall be doing, milling the meat out of the gap between the web faces of the crankshaft to save hours of high stress eccentric turning. It was Newton that taught me this trick and I recommend it to anyone chopping a crankshaft out of the solid....

In the madness there is one small gleam of sense. See THIS BBC report. The White House has warned Israel that the US will not participate in any retaliatory strikes on Iran, senior administration officials have said. Over 300 drones and missiles were fired at Israel overnight, which Iran said was in...

My new telly does clever things with sound but it won't be as good as that!
Susan and Mick saw it for the first time yesterday and Susan, who has lousy hearing and two hearing aids said the sound was very good for her.

Wendy, I think the New Inn mentioned in the first advertisement is almost certainly your inn in Dotcliffe. I have seen instances before where Dotcliffe is described as Kelbrook.

Morning Sue. What a shame that there were those negative aspects of the city. Never mind, I know you will have made the most of the stay. I take it you will be heading home today. I hope the day goes well. :good:
