Summer has arrived

I have finished Eve's little top for her birthday in late April. I just need some pink leggings to go with it. I am very pleased with the appliqué effect which is the first time I have used my dedicated embroidery machine to do this. All the fabric, bar the lace trim, I had in my box of bits, so an economical garment. I loved making it.

Nice Sue.... Your post reminded me of working in the mill because in the middle of winter we were weaving for the summer market. "Winter is upon us. Let's start weaving for summer!"

And here is another. Summer must come now. Even a glimpse of sun would be nice.
This has taken me 4 days, normally I make a dress in a day, but I have been careful for a change! Now for the next one.

Lovely. Are you going to be wearing the pink leggings with that Sue?

Orange is definitely the right choice. I've been trying to remember when I last did any sewing and made something to wear, and I think it must have been about 30 years ago. I don't know how you find the energy for all this creativity Sue!

The nearest I get to this subject is sewing buttons on and make do and mend.... Mind you, I have the Shed but colours aren't important there, more about how well it wears!

Ah but I am not out chasing and feeding animals all day! I have always made things but not much in recent years except or Eve and Briony, but I have decided that this is he year I start making for me again, especially now I have found these three superb fabric warehouses in France. Mind you this cotton fabric came by mail order from Harrogate.

Did you ever go to that fent shop in Addingham? Run by friends of mine and it was an Aladdin's Cave!

It doesn't seem long since department stores had a whole floor devoted to fabrics and haberdashery. Perhaps it will make a come back...knitting wool shops are popping up everywhere.
You've set me thinking about the times when it was normal to make our own dresses. Heading for Lewis's or Schofield's in Leeds to choose a pattern, fabric & other necessary bits & pieces. Bias bindings, buttons...and what was that white stuff called that you put in for stiffening...Vilene?
We used to have summer dresses as part of our school uniform which were very unfashionable flower print shirt waisters with flared skirts, more suited to the 50's than the 60's. Must have been about 1965 when some new, bright, modern fabric was chosen and we were allowed to make our own summer dresses. It was all very exciting...imagine that happening now!

No I didn't Stanley and I can't remember why. I think I may have been on the website and found it wasn't dress fabric. Yes Wendy Its nearly all mail order now but I am impressed with the stuff I have bought over the last couple of years

The ice cream top had to be lengthened, so much for making 5 year old size for a 4 th birthday present. Hope these fit.
