The dress & coat look amazing, but I would like to see a picture of you wearing them on the day!

I had a nice example of that yesterday. One of the extended family in Oz posted a pic of herself wearing the dress she bought for Harry and Janet's wedding 24 years ago. It still fits perfectly and she is just as beautiful as she was then. I proved this by sending her a pic of herself on the day. That went down very well!

Two attempts and 18 months later, own pattern based on a 1940s style. Many thanks to my lovely sewing teacher Maxine for her help and encouragement in times of despair

We have Isla with us for the day so our Carla can go to school today for prep work. Sally is showing her how to make a skirt. They have measured up and are into the first bits of machine sewing. We have a fully functional Singer hand cranked machine which is being used to teach Isla basic material control and how to machine sew in a straight line. Isla has done the cutting out and hand tacking as well. She is eager to learn but has chosen a Navy Blue fabric, probably one of the worst colours to sew! I will put a photo up when they have finished.

Not the best picture but shows Isla's first machine sewing attempt. Straight skirt with elasticated waistband and decoration. Very good for an 8 year old with a little help from grandma

I have a question, who was the skirt for? The model is extremely well developed for an eight year old!

Trick of the camera Stanley, that indeed is our Isla, she has a baggy blouse on and the skirt is sat a little lower on the body than it looks. hand cranked Singer machine Maz under the expert eye and guidance of grandma.

If I had a grandchild, (boy or girl), I'd be happy to teach sewing, cooking, gardening, knitting etc
And if they didn't like any of that, we could learn something new together - that would be fun.
