Perhaps it's to do with some kind of proprietary software like Java...but then it's usually Ubuntu that would be giving the problem, not a Windows computer (which I assume you are using Gloria - or is it a `tablet'?).

There's another hold up with transferring the database. The software he uses has a limit of 60,000 characters for a post, which is the maximum size by default for this kind of board (phpbb). Its been set to unlimited by Doc (obviously to accommodate some of Stanley's articles). Its being worked on......

I am on windows XP on the laptop, and it's the same on the ipad. I'm not concerned about it, just wondering "why".

I tried the link using my tablet and thought I had the same problem as Gloria, but the picture was just slow to load....it arrived eventually.

Its probably quite high resolution and so might not like some of the graphics adaptors in the laptops and tablets. I can't see the point myself, just making the forum page larger and inviting incompatibility problems. The background we have is fine with me fairly neutral and easy on the eye.

He hasn't touched the main site yet. The banners are in a rotation, I think there is a gap that comes up from time to time. It should be OK on the new version.

The changes are obviously going to have an impact on what we can access and see for a while. Lets just accept this and not comment on issues until Ian and Pluggy have had time to get the bigger issues sorted. Nolic

Comrade, I think the last posts should have had an irony alert! You are quite right but I think what Kev and Pluggy were doing was laughing at the thought that people won't complain. They know fine that they will get the same flak that Doc got as everyone wanted the site personalising to suit them. That's the course that leads down the road to all the complicated and damaging add-ons.

My mother warned me about teasers.... I noted that some of my big posts in Rare texts had been deleted but told myself this was simply part of the change over procedure.... Notice that I didn't complain!!!

By default the board has a limit on 60,000 characters for a single post. Doc set this to unlimited to accommodate your larger contributions. All fine and dandy until you have to migrate the database.. Our professional friend wrote a script to automate the process but it still fell over on the extra large posts. I think Pluggy has copied them off before deleting. The upshot will be to re-instate them later in multi-part. Just a blip, nothing that can't be sorted.

We're getting nearer, we have a mock up of the revamped OGFB to look at with the database repaired. I'm getting the mods to peruse it before general release. It looks like what I'd want OGFB be to be like, much the same at first glance but an order of magnitude simpler.

Repairing the database and the fact that the php programmer has other work to do accounts for the delays.

The new version is not a shock and much more simple. Nobody need have any qualms about it. No doubt we will have to do some modification when we get member feedback but this will not be allowed to over-complicate things. I have no problems about waiting for the end result, main thing is to get it right!

Mrs Tiz almost succumbed to a fit of giggles this morning when I replied to her question about what's happening to OGFB. I told her that there isn't much to see but that Pluggy and the moderators were like ducks - serene on the surface but paddling furiously below the water line!

I may live to regret this, but this is the mock up. The gallery images and avatars aren't there but its basically what it will look like.
