BOLTON INDEX ENTRIES AS OF 19 October 2006

1920s
Tommy Bolton was the leader of a band in the 1920s which Arthur Entwistle joined. See LTP. 78/AL/04. p 7.

1932/34
Ernie Roberts was a sweeper at Fernbank Shed in 1932/34 and talks about a man called Bolton who had eight looms, unheard of at the time. This was at the start of the More Looms movement. See LTP. 78/AC/06. page 8.

1982
In 1982 Peter Bracewell wrote to Doreen Crowther after his mother Billie Bracewell of Gargrave had been approached by Doreen during her Bracewell research. Peter was born in 1923 in Burnley. His father was Harold and his grandfather James died in Victoria hospital Burnley in 1934. Both James and Harold were Manchester cotton merchants. Peter married Barbara Bolton in 1953, she was the youngest daughter of Sam and Hannah Bolton of Slipper Hill at Foulridge. Hannah was a Haighton before she married and both the Bolton and Haighton families lived in Beanfield House at Higherford in the late 1800s. [Doreen lived at Beanfield House] Peter reckoned that James, his grandfather, who he knew, was one of William [Billycock] Bracewell’s bastards.

1881. Elizabeth Bolton, 59, Gubshill, Earby. Hannah Bolton, 66. William Bolton, 74. William Bolton, 36. 1891 entries; Elizabeth is noted as 70 and is at Tunstead Farm, Kelbrook. No entry for Hannah or William senior. William Jnr. is noted as 47 and is at Engill[sic], Gisburn Forest.

Henry Bolton, Thornton, 43 is at 12 Lower Wrea Street, Scarborough.
James Bolton, Thornton, 58 is at Ambler Thorn, Northowram.
