SALTERFORTH DRAINAGE LETTER 1822
This is the best scan I could get but I am working on it and a transcription.
On the reverse is a notation: 'Mr Thomas Buttles assessment for Salterforth Enclosure 2 November 1822.
Click on this for a larger file. ( I've just checked and I think that's better. Let me know....)

Re: SALTERFORTH DRAINAGE LETTER 1822
I've sent a copy to Nick Livesey Wendy and I would be grateful for advice where we can lodge this for safe keeping. Is there anyone who holds other relevant papers?
The letter was given to me by Pr Patrick Knowles of Llandudno whose wife found it in a parcel of papers and realised it was important. I have written to him and thanked him. The covering letter that came with the paper goes with it as provenance. It proves it was a gift.

I'm not certain but I think this was the Kay's Arms in Thornton.

Yes that was the Kaye's Arms Stanley. We have other documents relating to the Salterforth Drainage Award in the Earby Archive and would be happy to put the letter with them.

Re: SALTERFORTH DRAINAGE LETTER 1822
Some information from Nick Livsey..... "John Stockdale had 'allotment 39' upon Whitemoor ( just over 86 acres), as yet I haven't found out which farm he owned but I suspect it was Acornlee Hall Farm at Foulridge. Stockdale Plantation is named after him as this was his 'allotment'"
Nick sent me this as well. A map of the allotments.

Is Nick happy for the letter to come to the Earby History Society? If it's OK with you Stanley I'll pop round on Tuesday morning.
