Spring 2017

Post by PanBiker »

Spring Equinox, well it will be at 10.28am, slightly early with this post but not as early as the meteorologists would have it.

It may be Spring but the forecast is for it to drop a lot cooler for the next few days.

Anyway, whatever it brings post your observations here.

The rain slacked off at about 16:00 yesterday roughly as forecast. At the moment it's almost dry but there has been a recent shower. The glass is down slightly at just below 994mb. The forecast is for it to remain dry until about 06:00 then rain until midday. A sunny afternoon but rain gradually coming back in as darkness falls and late tonight there could be snow on high ground. The high is 9C and the low 0C with a moderate SW wind all day giving us a slight wind chill. It looks as though an early walk is indicated!
We went out at the usual time and now, 06:15 we are back home. It was raining slightly when we went out and the broken cloud of earlier this morning has been replaced by 100% overcast. Not a lot of rain during the night, Butts Beck is down a bit but still flowing strongly. What intrigued me is the diversion and full road closure on Church Street with no apparent reason. There must be something but whatever it is it's not evident at the moment.

The sun is out at the moment but we have had some strong squally showers this morning - more like Autumn that Spring. It is ruining all the Spring flowers.

Nasty weather Moh..... re. the sewer.... If it's as deep as the one they had to repair at the top of Butts it will be a fair hole!
We had some sun yesterday afternoon but then showers again, at 21:00 it was starting to rain again. This morning we have had recent rain but at the moment broken cloud with lots of clear sky. The glass has risen slightly to 995mb. The forecast is for a much colder day, bright overcast and sunny spells but with the chance of a shower at almost any time. These could fall as snow around 5 or 6AM. The high will be 5C and the low 1C but the brisk SW wind will chill us down to as low as -4C at times. It's a wintry looking day!
05:45. We got out early and it was already coming light. The forecast was spot on, a brisk and very cold SW wind bringing in flurries of hard snow, more like hail, that sting when they hit the skin and are drifting up against West facing walls. The low, heavy overcast is well broken with big clear patches, the moon is clearly visible through these breaks. It's definitely a winter morning! No actual digging in Church Street yet but they have certainly fenced the area to protect a deep excavation.
Question, what level of intelligence is needed to kick a litter bin over?

It took Glenn our plasterer over an hour and a half to get to Barlick from the top of Nelson this morning, he set off at 8am and arrived just after 9.30.

Yesterday was nasty and at 21:00 it was still trying to rain. Raining this morning as Jack went for his morning pee. The glass is up slightly at 997mb. The forecast is that apart from dry overcast 9AM until noon it will rain all day and before 9AM it could fall as snow. Deep joy. Slightly warmer than yesterday with a high of 7C and a low of 2C but the wind has shifted and it will be a moderate Easterly all day so wrap up warm because there will be a wind chill.
06:20. It was a cold wet walk. We have cold rain and sleet, not snow and Jack is glad to be back indoors and rubbed down! Butts Beck shows that there was a considerable amount of rain during the night and that the ground is sodden. The excavations have started on Church Street and I was right about the depth, they are down 8ft already and no sign of the sewer. What is puzzling me is why they have flagged up a diversion for Butts when access is perfectly possible even with a large vehicle.....

I agree Moh, a thoroughly nasty day all round. It was still raining heavily at 21:00 last night. However, this morning it is dry but still overcast. The glass is well up at 1010mb. The forecast is for the overcast to last until about 8AM and then clear to give us some good sun and clear sky for the rest of the day. The high is 10C and the low 2C. The wind is a constant ENE starting very light but increasing to a moderate breeze for the rest of the day.The outlook is continuing double figure highs.....
06:20. A dry walk in a very light ENE wind. The cloud is still heavy but breaking as it come in from the East. Light enough to switch the street lights off at 05:45. The hole in Church Street is now at least 12ft down to water level and of course could be even deeper. There is still good access to Butts from Church Street.

It was a much better day yesterday and at 21:00 it was overcast but dry. This morning first thing it was almost calm, a clear sky and a nip in the air. By 06:00 when we walked down to the butcher's it was a beautiful morning, almost calm, a white frost and full daylight with very thin high cloud. It's perfectly clear with full sun as I write. The glass rose strongly yesterday and during the night, it is up to almost 1027mb and still rising. The forecast is for a day of full sun with a light easterly wind and a high of 10C with a low tonight of 1C. A perfect March day and the washing is out on the line!

It was a lovely sunny day here as well Moh. Clear and dry at 21:00 and the same this morning. The glass was tending to rise yesterday and this morning is on 1029mb. The forecast is for exactly the same today, early frost, full sun all day, light East wind and a high of 13C with a low of 3C. This and better will do!
Remember to put your clocks forward one hour tonight in the UK.
06:35. A lovely walk on a dry, calm, frosty morning. This and better.......

Another lovely day yesterday. At 21:00 it was calm, dry and a clear sky. This morning it was the same. The glass is down slightly at 1023mb. The forecast is dead simple, almost the same as yesterday, a dry day with clear skies. The high is 11C and the low tonight 5C. The wind is constant and from the East, it will start light and increase to moderate as the day goes on. Another very acceptable day.
06:10. Back after a pleasant, if dark, walk on a cool but not frosty morning. Dawn is creeping in from the East. Not a lot more to say really except as usual, this and better will do nicely!

Another good day, a touch more cloud perhaps but good nevertheless. Clear and a light East wind at 21:00. Overcast this morning with the same light east wind. The glass has backed a touch to 1020mb. The forecast is for another dry day with good sun but a touch more cloud. There will be a constant light east wind and the high is 10C and the low 5C. Another good day!
05:40. Bit of a triumph! We have managed a short walk and Jack has had one good delivery. He will be OK until 10AM. It's a cool morning but dry and already coming daylight. Hopefully I shall be properly mobile tomorrow!

Queensland is experiencing Cyclone Debbie at the moment. It's happening along the Great Barrier Reef coast basically from Cairns to Mackay. At Hamilton Island the wind reached a ferocious 263k's per hour (Severe Category 4).
This is a high level cyclone with a 60k wide eye.
The high wind gusts could reach as far as Brisbane.
Footage on Tele is frightening.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

It's reported here Cathy and as you say it looks like a bad cyclone. Lots to be said for Barlick weather! Lag is 100% better thank God. We managed our short walk yesterday but though fine, that was a cold wind! Clear and cold wind at 21:00. Same this morning at the moment. Glass back again at 1015mb. Forecast is for a bright overcast day but dry until nightfall when the light East wind swings into the west and we could have some rain. The high is 12C and the low 8C. The outlook is for more rain but even warmer!
06:15. Back from a pleasant walk on a cool, calm overcast morning. There was a heavy dew while the sky was clear during the night and this is now a mist under the overcast. The sewer repair on Church Street is complete and it looks as though the barriers can be taken out today.
I can feel the effects of yesterday's unpleasantness in my leg but I am high mileage and reconciled to the fact that healing takes a bit longer. I took it steady and no problems!

I was up late this morning so I have already had my walk. The rain set in during the late afternoon as the wind changed into the west, the Atlantic systems are pushing the high pressure back It was still raining last might at 21:00 and also this morning first thing. The glass has fallen again to 1011mb. It isn't raining at the moment and is a mild morning with a west wind. The forecast is for light rain until noon and then heavier for the rest of the day. The wind is swinging into the south and will stay there all day giving us a very mild 12C high and 10C low tonight. This is verging on growy weather!

It was as forecast, a wet day. At 21:00 last night it was mild and still drizzling. This morning it is the sane. The glass has fallen slightly to just under 1010mb. The forecast is for a murky damp morning with sunshine and scattered heavier showers in the afternoon. It is milder, 15C as a high and 11C as a low tonight. The moderate southerly wind is constant all day. Again, we have growy weather!
06:40. A damp walk with occasional drizzle from the 100% overcast. The moderate southerly wind is mild, this is growy weather! Tomorrow looks as though it will be similar.....

Yesterday was damp but very mild. Last night at 21:00 it was the same. This morning it was the same! We've been down to the butcher's on a very mild morning. The sky was 100% overcast and there was the odd rainspot in the air but the moderate wind is drying things up. The glass is down significantly at 998mb. The forecast is for a mild day, mixed as regards rain, there is a chance of a light shower at almost any time but the cloud is broken now and we shall have sunny spells as well. The high is 13C and the low 8C with a constant moderate southerly wind. This is growy weather. I took a big step this morning and put the Crombie away in the wardrobe until next winter!

Yesterday exceeded the forecast and became a lovely sunny spring day. 50% cloud last night, dry and mild with the bonus of a crescent moon. Same this morning. The glass is steady on 999mb. The forecast for today is mainly bright overcast with sunny spells but late morning and early afternoon there is an increased chance of a shower. The light wind is swinging into the east and this will drop the high to 10C and the low to 5C but this is still a mild day. Good outlook for tomorrow.....

Once again, yesterday was better than the forecast. At 21:00 last night the sky was clear, it was dry and there was a light west wind. This morning it is the same. The glass is well up at 1012mb. The forecast is good, a bright sunny day with scattered cloud but dry. The high will be 11C and the low 5C with a constant light westerly breeze all day. It's a good day for early April!
06:50. Back from a pleasant walk on a cool dry morning with clear sky coming in from the West to replace the broken cloud. It has all the makings of another good day!

Warm where the sun shone, but the shaded areas didn't really heat up. Nice if you had a glasshouse in the sun as the crops should put on a good growth. Always makes drying after the washing up easier when the sun shines through the window, I had some tubs and records that needed washing and cleaning. Tonight clear skies and stars and other light bits in the sky nicely visible to the east.
